I want to stretch the frame on a 07 dodge ram 3500. I want to add 2 feet in front of the rear axle. The truck has 6000miles and is all stock. Its a Mega Cab short bed. I can remove the bed and stuff. Thanks

Reply:Must be a good deal if you're willing to drive that far.  Make sure you add the fuel to the cost as well as what your time spent driving is worth to you.

Reply:yeah a 8ft bed is the plan no shops around here want to touch it this place has done 200 of them and dodge backs their work i dont have much other option its 5000 with a bed paint new fuel lines drive shaft and a new wiring harness and all the frame work.
Reply:Does dodge not make a mega cab long box?  Pretty sure if it was me I would try selling the truck and look for a mega cab long box before I would give someone 5000 plus fuel and expenses to drive there to mod one.
Reply:no they dont offer it in a long bed. Its a pain to pull a full with gooseneck trailer now.
Reply:ive heard short beds are great for pulling goosenecks. where did they put the ball in the bed?? ive had guys screw up the install and made towing horrible. my grandfather had a 91 ford that had a "eye" ball installed. the dealer installed it too far foward and when we tried to turn the trailer we ripped off the tail lights from hitting the trailer.  if your having problems towing you might have a bad ball install. thats the problem with the mega cab, youve added close to 2 feet to the cab, so they took it out of the bed. i personally wouldnt stretch the frame, your altering your wheelbase which would mess with your handling. plus without axle relocation your gooseneck would be almost 5' into the bed, which means a hitch extension or mounting it behind the rear axle.there's a reason none of my friends own mega cabs, and its that you only have a maximum bed space of 6', well once you put a fullsize aws box that goes to 3'. you might just have to sell it and get a regular cab, or quadcab 8' bed.also be willing to fork out a few thousand for the job. ive only heard of 1 company that can stretch full size trucks, somewhere out west i believe, it was a couple years ago that i heard about it. but this company would cut the bed down and stretch the cab.good luck with ur stretch....Last edited by smokin_dodge; 11-29-2009 at 01:22 PM.I break things for a living...

Reply:they do look sick i have a quad cab long bed and single cab long bed but im pulling more and more and a mega is nice for those 1500 mile trips. Thanks for the input,
Reply:oh and smokin dodge i dont really see how handling would be any different than one of dodges cab and chassis that already have a extended wheelbase. I installed the b and w hitch and is in the appropriate location. I have pulled a equipment trailer with a v nose before but with a 8 foot wide square nose you cant maneuver around some gas stations and deff not my drive way.

Reply:I just saw a white megacab dually with the long bed conversion in Brownwood TX.   First one I've seen, looks quite cool.
