I read a thread on here that got me thinking I need to go into buisness for myself.Since then I bought a g7 welder and several differant rods for differant applications (which I just rediscovered my love for stick welding again)I am not a rich man at this point and time so I need to conserve my loot when buying equipment.I found a good deal on a SP-200,but if I am to get started trying to drum up repair work (to get my name and work quality out) I am going to need an air compresser and a good set of torches.I think I found the compresser, but what torch outfit gets the most bang for the buck and where do I get it inexpensive(wholesale dealers) I am partial to Victor's,but I also like Smith and Harris so can you guys help me with this decision? Will a 100 cf handle be big enough to cut say up to 21/2" and run a decent size rosebud? Thanks in advance,DDogIf it's too . get an office jobLincoln wp225g7 Lincoln 250 idealarcFrankenstein O/A set-up Weld-tech  tig set-upLincoln sp 175 plus profax  arc gouger
Reply:I couldn't tell you which torch set, I have only used one.  I started my business with a G7, LN-25 an SP100 and Metal Master Esab torch set.  With a W300 torch.  It worked for me, I still have all of them after 20 years.DavidReal world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:The majority of my business is repair work and most of it is heavy steel (3/4"-2") on logging equipment.  I have torches made by Smith, Victor, Harris, and Air Products.   My favorite is the old Air product's torches, but they aren't made anymore.  I have Smith, and Victor sets on my two portable rigs, and both do very well.  It's pretty much personal preference as to which one to go with.  The heavy duty sets from both manufacturers will be plenty for what you want to do.  You just need to handle them and see which fits your best.  Good Luck.  ~JacksonI'm a Lover, Fighter, Wild horse Rider, and a pretty good welding man......

Reply:Price wise my Harris was the best deal. I actually bought the set for the regulators, but do occasionally use the torch. I think I gave about 150 -180 for the rig at Lowes. Gentec is an excellent choice if you are wanting a good deal. It's a Victor, but made in China. I actually think that is what Victor did with their old tooling when they went to having the check valves and arrestors built in. My business partner has one that is 6 years old and you honestly can't tell a difference between it and my 20 year old Victor. The regulators are identical to my newer Victors as well. The last one of those I saw was at Harbor Freight a few months back and they had everybody's price on it beat. The difference between art and craft is the quality of the workmanship. I am an artist.
Reply:Thanks guys I was actually looking at that set from harbor freight, but wasn't sure how well it would hold up.I think my mind is made up now Thans againDenny Dog If it's too . get an office jobLincoln wp225g7 Lincoln 250 idealarcFrankenstein O/A set-up Weld-tech  tig set-upLincoln sp 175 plus profax  arc gouger
