I was born and raised in West Virginia, but currently live/go to welding school in Florida and have been here for 3 years now.  I know there is a lot of shale to be drilled in both states (West Virginia and North Dakota) but why are we hearing about all the jobs being in North Dakota and not in West Virginia, even though there is 100x more shale and natural gas to be drilled in West Virginia.  Anyone know why they arent drilling as much in WV?  Am I just not hearing about it?  Is it tied up in the courts in the sue/lawyer happy state of WV?  I would love to move back to WV and work, but dont hear about the jobs.Anyone have an answer as to why the boom in currently in ND?  If Im missing it any links to work in WV??Read my welding blog:http://weldeveryday.wordpress.com/
Reply:You might find more people with answers to this question on the AWS Forum - quite a few pipeliners there who'd keep up with these issues.  Last I heard, there was a fair amount of pipeline work in PA - sorry I can't be more specific but my contact wasn't in the industry.
Reply:Well I did hear on the radio they are looking to hire 6 more inspectors and in order to do that they reduced the time in the industry from 5 years to two.  Actually the price of natural gas isn't very stong now.  The price is on the order of $5 or a little less.  It is kind of amazing how close to cap and trade we came.  I tend to watch CSPAN from time to time and was watching this cap and trade before the last election fall of the house and a fair number of republicans would have gone along so long as there was some sort of kick out provision for when the price went over 25 to 30 as they called natural gas the mothers milk of manufacturing It has less carbon per btu. What other shale besides Marcelus were you thinking of?  It is really only 20 feet thick over here from what I see on the internet and perhaps 100 feet thick in parts of PA.  I know they built or are building a 14 inch pipeline in Tyler county.  I added a pictue showing a well and the separator device and the tanks for the liquids that come out.  Do the wells in Dakota need this hardware?  As you might imagine from the picture there is a lot of maintance due on the 30 year old stuff and many wells that probably should be plugged.  Then you get into the right of way for pipelines issues.  Fool me once shame on you fool me twice shame on me.  There are folks with little pieces of land that was vacant when the pipeline was installed (Without getting a right of way contract) getting a better free gas deal than neighbors who made a contract with collection piping running on their property to meter sites.Just my observations.fran Attached Images
Reply:In ND they are actually fraking oil not gas. Im pretty sure. Its kind of an oil boom there. Im looking into it for sure.
Reply:check out rigzone.com.  the utica shale is below the marcelus.  it's supposed to be  a bigger deal than the marcelus.  also check out atex express.  it's a big pipeline from appalachia to texas.
Reply:There is over 200 rigs drilling in ND, and there is no infrastructure to support the wells.  They are just burning off the gas, and trucking out the oil.  There is an insane amount of money to be made here.  Mcdonalds was is paying $15 or more, with a $500 sign on bonus.  I also just got word of a 21,500 foot hole completed in 15.5 days.  Holy crap that's fast!!!
