Pins for hanging signs

I am going to hang some laser cut letters ( business name).The letters are made from aluminum and need to be set off the wall 5/8 of an inch.I have used drive pins for:confused steel ones in the past. I can just tap on the sign with a hammer but that isn't going to work with  aluminum.Has anyone done anything like this or have any suggestions?

Reply:Since you need to hold them off the wall anyways, I'd think about welding some sort of stud to the back of the letters ( I'm assuming from your post you don't want the fasteners to show from the front). I'd either machine a step in the post so the step is 5/8" off the back of the letters or weld a washer on to set your spacing requirement. The rest of the post will be what attaches it to the wall. Hilti makes an epoxy for setting anchors. Drill a hole slightly bigger in dia to your post, fill 1/2 way with the epoxy and then insert the post in the hole and brace and hold until the epoxy sets.I'm sure I could come up with a more complicated solution that would allow you to use other types of fasteners, probably some sort of bracket you attach to the wall and then hang the letters from the bracket and secure them, but I think the epoxy method is probably the easiest..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:I once got to visit a fleet customer.  They were making small transfer buses, the kind of thing you see at the airport.  They used the double sided 3M tape to secure the aluminum skin to the framework of the vehicle.  No welding, no screws, no rivets.  Just tape.
