Hey guys,I've been shopping for a piece of 3/8" steel for a bench top here in Vancouver and I've been getting crazy high prices from everyone. About 1.80 per pound. Is this normal for this area? I'd think that a big metro area would have abundant steel supply and reasonable prices. I guess my next step would be checking out a fab shop with a plasma or laser table and seeing what a sliced piece would be from them. Any tips for a metal supplier or a fab shop around here for something like this? Thanks!
Reply:Hey shout out to my local brother. There is a good place out in Port Kells called Valley cut steel. Give them a call and they will give you a quote. They are a good bunch of guys there, and depending on your needs might be able to make some kind of deal.9515 190 St Surrey, BC V4N 3S1(604) 807-8335
Reply:What size piece are you looking for and what is your location? $1.80/lb seems high even with mark up. I'd wager a guess that Wilkinson Steel the regional supplier is selling to it's customers for around 50 cents pound.
Reply:Hey guys,Looking for a 6'x4'x3/8" piece for a bench top. All the places I've called have quoted around 650 bucks. Seems really high given it's just HR plate and a small burn fee.
Reply:I'll check the sell price at work tomorrow and let you know...

Reply:I picked up a piece of half inch, 5 ft by 3 ft for 220 dollars at the local scrap yard. I had to do some cleaning but well worth the effort considering the price. do you not have a scrap yard nearby that you could attend and check for a piece before they ship it out to a foundry?Guy_48Welding is an art......Millermatic 252Lincoln SP175PlusLincoln 225 AC/DC
