I would really like to make a tube bender like the Gottrikes, but no need to think about that anymore.  Found on Craigslist for a whopping 250.  Includes a 2" 6.5 clr die and a 1.5" 5.5 clr die.  Now to start bending some tube.Rene Attached Images
Reply:Excellent Craigslist find. That's what one die would have cost you new. What bender is it? I bend on a JD2, converted to hydro. It's been a wonderfully asset to my shop.

Reply:I forgot to put that in.  It is a JD2 model 3.  I have the inclination to convert it to hydraulic.  I got a stupid sounding idea on how to convert it on the super cheapo plan.  How about a power steering pump driven with an electric motor via a belt drive with a control valve and an external reservoir.  I think it would work.  The power steering pumps do not put out the pressures that hydraulic power packs do, but a larger cylinder isn't much more expensive.  What do you think?Rene

Reply:Thanks for the link.  Somebody has already figured out a bunch of it for me.Thanks again,Rene
Reply:How about the cylinder for the porta-packs?  I believe the ends are threaded and should fit the hydraulic mounting kit from JD2, or you can design your own.  These rams appear to be the exact same design as the one from JD2, plus, if you buy on of the kits, you can use it for other stuff.  In any case, if you don't have one of these kits, it can come in real handy. The cheapest is the one from Harbor, but Northern Tool has a nicer one.http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=44900http://www.northerntool.com/webapp/w...Product%20Page

Reply:Let me know what you find out.  I'm planning on this same conversion, but I'm don't know if I should buy the adapters or make my own as I don't have the bender unpacked and won't get to it for a while.
