I am a hobbyist looking for small quantities, cutoffs, scraps and the like for small projects. The only places I know of that are close to me are Specialty in Langhorne and Pa Steel Corp in Bensalem. They have most everything I would need but Specialty doesn't do any cutting and PSC charges quite a bit for the service. I'm wondering if there's anyplace around that will fit my needs and budget a little better. Thanks in advance, Kirk.
Reply:I'm in Southampton. There's Met-L Center (SP) in Warminster in the industrial park off Jacksonville Rd between Bristol and Almshouse on Railroad Rd IIRC. A buddy of mine in my machining class picks up stuff there. There's a few other metal shops in that area, but I've never asked about materials.I know a guy with a small weld shop off Mearns Rd that I've gotten a few things from in the past. Not sure how much "scrap" he keeps on hand now the way the economy is. He's usually pretty frugal about his stock.I usually deal with Finkles in Lambertville NJ. They aren't all that far, sell by the foot for reasonable prices and have a moderate selection. I also like to support them because they are a small local hardware store that's managing to survive in the big box store world today. I get 95% of my small stuff from them.Best place is Fazzio's in Glassboro in south Jersey. It's a drive, but well worth the trip. Plan to  go with lots of time to browse. Their used tool area is extensive and there are deals to be had that change all the time. The new store next door has just about anything you want as far as material and will sell by the foot or length. They've also got a smaller location just across the  line in Delaware I've been to. Not as good a selection, but worth a trip if you are in the area. I drive to Fazzio's Glassboro when I need any kind of quantity usually. There's Penn Stainless in Quakertown if you need stainless, that's where I pick up my stainless. Pierce Alum on Jacksonville rd in Warminster for alum where the old NADC was located, done a small amount of stuff with them, but Fazzio's beat their price last time for what I wanted. Always full lengths however, no pieces. There's Hooper steel in Harleysville IIRC but it's been a few years since I dealt with them. They sold by the foot when I dealt with them. There was a steel yard off Alleganey Ave just off I-95 IIRC. I used to go by them daily working one job down that way, but never stopped in.There are a bunch of scrap yards down in Philly. I haven't gone to them for about 6 or 8 years now. I'd have to dig to try and locate the addresses again. Some were pretty decent about letting you browse, others were a PITA.  There's Delaware Vally Scrap in Bristol off US 13. I know a guy who hauls scrap to then regularly. He's friends with the yard guy, so sometimes he can find me stuff. Not sure how they are about guys who walk up to buy.Never heard of Specialty before. I'll have to look them up. Cutting is no big deal for me. I've got the tools to bring with, if needed..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Reply:Wow, thanks DSW. That's quite a list. I'm in Langhorne, right on the edge of Trevose so the tips on the local places are much appreciated.
Reply:Metal Stock inc., on cottman ave off of rt 95 in North east Philly has a decent selection http://www.metal-stock.com/i believe there is a $25 minimumI usually go to fazzios, that place is greaton a side note they have another satellite location in wall township
