I would like to make a tire boot. It would not have to be pretty like the manufactured ones, nor would it have to be adjustable since I would want it for one specific vehicle only. Anyone ever tried making one? Here's a new one:http://www.awdirect.com/rhino-tire-b...ms/?CID=BASE08

Reply:Come to Chitcago with a portable O/A torch kit and get all you want. Of course you will need to reweld what you cut, but I would just love reading about it in the paper"Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! I sent him over to snag that MIC-4 while tbone wasn't looking!" - duaneb55"I have bought a few of Tbone's things unlike Stick-Man who helps himself" - TozziWelding"Stick-man"

Reply:Don't know. But it must suck to live where that stuff happens. I don't even take the keys out of my trucks.Come and get it! lolRoscoe, my puppy, and my buddies smith and wesson can't wait!Tim Beeker.
Reply:Yes it sucks but you just deal with it. It's not really terrible if you are careful. On the other hand, we don't have to worry about snow or ice, or tornadoes, which I still remember as a youth in Chicago.
Reply:you would be better off pulling the ignition relay. Its just as effective as the boot in slowing down a real thief.Vantage 500's LN-25's, VI-400's, cobramatics, Miller migs, synch 350 LX, Powcon inverters, XMT's, 250 Ton Acurrpress 12' brake, 1/4" 10' Atlantic shear,Koikie plasma table W/ esab plasmas. marvel & hyd-mech saws, pirrana & metal muncher punches.
Reply:I have aquired tire boots off cars and modified them so they could be used again by using keyed lug nuts. The trick is to find the ones on larger tires like truck tires and simply deflate the tire a little and simply pull the boot off. Then, you cut the keyed end off of the threaded rod which tightens the boot and weld on a keyed lug nut in its place.Last edited by 76GMC1500; 01-04-2010 at 02:37 AM.

Reply:Get yourself a electric fence charger and mount on your truck. You can arm it with an insulated key. Then sit back and watch when someone touches your truck. Depending on your tires you might need to ground the truck. I did it to a trailer once on a job site. Lots of other equipment got stolen but not my trailer!
Reply:pull the fuel pump relay
Reply:The superduty is one of the most stolen trucks but it is also a pretty easy truck to keep from starting also. Like mentioned there are a bunch of fuses and relays you can pull pretty easy. I have a DP tuner that is wired right to my computer(is yours a diesel?). I can change tunes on the fly and add HP and also it has a no start tune so when I shut the truck down I just push one button to change tunes and it can't be started till the tune is changed, which most theives won't figure out. If I really want to keep it from starting I can unplug the little tuner box and take it with me, the only way it will start then is if the bos is re connected to the wire going to the trucks computer or if the theives pop the hood and take out the computer and then disconnect the tuner wire and re install the computer. You can go to www.ford-trucks.com and search, they have a bunch of ways to keep your truck from starting. What engine and year is your truck? If it is a 7.3 you can drain the oil and then the truck will not start because it uses a HPOP to pressurize the oil and fire the fuel into the cylinders so no oil=no fuel=no start. Take the drive shafts out? I would think something like this would be more effective than a boot, since a couple replies are from people that already have found ways to take boots off. Also there is a company called lojack that will let you know when your truck is stolen and then it will GPS track it and call the police, not sure on the price of that.Last edited by ponch37300; 01-04-2010 at 12:12 PM.
Reply:Instead of making a boot, why not build a device that wraps over the rear axle and then have a plate bolted to the driveway for it to attach to. This way the truck can't even be towed away. I have a plate with a D ring mounted in my drive way that I used to chain down one if my cars with.Synchowave 180SD Bernard 3500SS water coolerMillermatic 200Parker Plasma Tec 40dvOperating Engineers Local 12
Reply:All good ideas. I do have a Cyclops relay that won't let the truck start without the remote, and a steering wheel club. My goal is to have something visual, and easy for me to use, so they will just move on instead of causing damage breaking in and popping the ign, kinda what the club is for, altho easily defeated. I think with some real heavy plate I can make something pretty tough to remove, with heavy plate "pockets" for the padlock(s) to fit into like on a Greenlee or Knack job box. The steel driveway plate sounds good too, but you'd have to get dirty to use that.It is a 2002 7.3.
Reply:Heh. I used to have one that was in need of being made whole again. Silly Philadelphia Parking Authority!Just another clown trying to be cool |
