I need to weld a 1" square tube parallel to a 1.5" round tube. Is this feasible (practical) using MIG? Will I have to make multiple passes to fill the "valley"?Lee TiltonSCCA F500 Pilot
Reply:I don't see why not. As far as the multiple passes I guess it would depend on your weld procedure. I would think I could flush that with a single pass. A pic of how it will be used might help us understand a bit better what you are trying to accomplish.I'm a Lover, Fighter, Wild horse Rider, and a pretty good welding man......
Reply:Here are a few pics of the project. The rear clip will support a 120 lb. motor but have very little other forces on it. The suspension is not attached to the clip. Attached ImagesLee TiltonSCCA F500 Pilot
Reply:Looks good to me. I would however remove the paint and rust before welding.

Reply:One pass should be plenty. I'd do the step and pause to get good penetration and fill. That is a pretty slick job on that motor cart, by the way. Looks nice.Good welding.P.S. Definitely ixnay the paint!!! |
