Hey guys i need to cut 5 peice of ss 316 2mm thickness 400x400 sqaures i have 2 options jig saw or grinder with ultra cutting wheels now with the grinder if i take it easy i think its doable but if a hacksaw would be efficent and not go through 600 blades i would be willing to go and buy one any suggestions?
Reply:And also is it possible to get a nice pinky blue weld on 2mm stainles using a 2.4 filler on a outside corner joint because i have a whole load of 2.4filler but not 1.6
Reply:A decent hacksaw 'METAL' blade will cut through just about anything and you'll have a lot more control than a grinder. Alternatively, you could simply take it to any shop and have them cut it on a dry saw or similar for perfectly square ends.I would say there is nothing wrong with using filler that size. As a matter of fact, I would prefer it to the smaller stuff. I sometimes use a copper Block to help with 'color changes' on stainless flats and Tubes... I tend to run a bit TOO hot sometimes and the Copper Block or sheet certainly helps draw the 'Excess' heat away.Cheers,/Jman...Miller Diversion 165120 amp Buzz BoxVictor Oxy/Ace Oxy/LPGSmith "Little" Oxy/LPGHypertherm Powermax 30Lot's of Misc. tools n' crap....
Reply:hmm i might go pick up a jig saw and the plates r 400mm by 400mm so a bit to large for a hack saw thanks for the advice tho if i can get my hands on a copper block i might try it out because i was testing 2.4mm filler with 1.6mm tugsten and i just got black and grey but it was a really small coupon so we will see how things pan out
Reply:Good luck with that hacksaw.Take it to a shop.
Reply:JIGSAW not hacksaw i think he just miss understood that was part of my question would i be able to cut them with a jigsaw without going through about 1000 blades

Reply:Nothing wrong with a grinder and thin cutoff wheels at all, I wouldnt even condsider a jigsaw/hacksaw. I do lots of fabrication of ss sheet 16-12 ga and thats probably the most common tool I use, next to the shear.Draw a good line to follow and pay attention to what you are doing and your golden.Have we all gone mad?
Reply:The abrasive cut off wheel is your best bet BY FAR ,short of taking it to a shop with a plasma or a shear of course. You try to cut that with a jig saw and I fear it may result in you developing suicidal thoughts. |
