HI, I am new to the site and have a few questions for you all already.I am thinking about building a tipping trailer for my ATV but was wondering if anyone knows what is the best position for placing the ram trailer and on the frame. Is there a calculation for this which also depending on the lift power of the ram.Still not sure about using electric or manual pump system.
Reply:???? What are you wanting to build? A dumping yard trailer to pull behind your ATV. Or a tilt bed to haul your ATV on? Or a real dump trailer? Need more info.My name's not Jim....
Reply:my tilt trailer has a pivot just in front of the axle, you just walk the tires to the trailer and the tires pull down the trailer then you drive up. no need for hydraulic systems.I break things for a living...

Reply:Can't help with the tilting trailer but I built this one....It was originally a Sears yard cart and I added spindle axles. I used it many years until the bed was just gone.I then rebuilt the bed and here it is after.....South Arkansas RebelMiller 210 W/ Spoolgun& dual tank rackMiller Thunderbolt AC/DC
Reply:All I can say is skip the pump and go for something like this...http://www.northerntool.com/webapp/w...3245_200333245My name's not Jim....

Reply:I know this thread is old now, but I'm attaching pictures of an atv dump trailer I built a couple of years ago, exactly what you're looking to make. I used an electric actuator just as Boostinjdm suggested. I think I got it for $50 on eBay. If I recall correctly, it goes up to 500lbs force and has 18" stroke. I could have done with even less force and stroke. I once carried more gravel than the axles could handle, but the actuator dumped the the stuff just fine. On the tailgate, I installed 2 spring latches on top and 2 on bottom so it can flip up, flip down or be removed entirely. I made the bed detach by removing 3 pins so I could easily remove it to install other implements on the frame and actuator. One of the implements I made was a scarifier to pull up rocks and roots. The actuator controlled the depth of the blades. Attached ImagesLast edited by moocowman; 01-11-2010 at 02:09 AM.
Reply:I don't mind these old posts being reactivated - if you are looking for information, the date doesn't matter. It's fun to find them and learn some more. Those actuators look just like the old actuators that were used on the first satellite dishes - the big ones that were 10 or 12 foot in diameter. They ran on a 12 v line from the black box in the house. They were rated by the pounds of push -- you needed stronger ones if you lived in the ice and snow belt. Mabye that will help someone with a search, check to see if they still sell them. If someone was good at scrounging, there should be thousands of them "out there" that people would give away if they knew someone that wanted them. I know, I never know those people either.... |
