Price question for a Miller TIG Welder Maxstar 150 STH

I just came across a used Miller TIG Welder Maxstar 150 STH welder.  It is about one year old and looks brand new.  Has the case, torch everything and the guy is asking $800 firm.  Do you think this is a good deal.  I just bought a MM175 but would like to TIG once we cover that in my welding class (adult high school).  Thanks
Reply:That is a good price for a one year old STH, should still have some warantee on it. I paid about $1650 for a brand new one about a year and a half ago.

Reply:I picked it up. $750.  The only thing is the guy said the gauge needs service but other than that it is a super clean unit.

Reply:Actually, the deal was not as great as I thought.  I just realized it's missing thre remote fingertip control which is about $180
Reply:Good score!I have one just like it, a great little unit.a bummer that it's not there but don't worry too much about the finger control, you'll be wanting a pedal anyway.Buy American, or don't whine when you end up on the bread line.
Reply:That's what happens when I don't know what I'm doing but I pulled the trigger because I thought it was a good deal and wouldn't  last long on CL.  It was just posted earlier this evening.  I'll try and be more careful next time and hopefully  have more knowledge of what I am buying.

Reply:don't tempt me.  I was looking at plasma but before I spend any more money, I need to learn how to use my welders.  Fiirst 2 classes were watching safety videos and Monday we were cutting with the tourch.  Have a long way to go.
Reply:The unit may or may not have come with a remote. You can still tig without one. Lots of guys do that every day. It is a bit easier to learn with a remote however most times.Can't hurt to ask if he had one..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:It was to late to call the guy and ask him tonight.  I'll call tomorrow morning.  I just hooked up the gauge on a tank and it seems to be working fine.   I quess it is still an alright deal but not as good as I was thinking while driving to buy it, knowing now that I will want a remote.  I can always put back on CL and try to get my $750 back
Reply:dude you can get ssc foot control for that unit about 160.00 and then have the unit you want, and ssc pedal is way better than the miller one,so you still scored big on that buy.Ron

Reply:GOOD SCORE! The leads appear to be totally clean like out of a show room. It sure looks like it wasn't abused. The stinger looks like it never had a rod in it! You did good.. Definitely go with a foot pedal.  MILLER BLUE BLOB!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Reply:Yup, the STL tig runner msrp is $1870 and the STH is $2280. Big $ difference. If it was advertised as a STH, he was being dishonest. However, I have an STL and the lift arc works great, I don't really miss the high freq start. I use a finger control, I think a foot pedal for a mobile machine is silly.Ian TannerKawasaki KX450 and many other fine tools
Reply:yep, it was advertised as a STH but it is in fact a STL.  I hooked up the gauge and it works fine.  I called Miller and they told me the warranty runs until Dec 2012.  I also found out this unit/package did not come with a remote.  They do sell a package with the finger remote but I took the suggestions and ordered a pedal remote yesterday since I only plan to use it in my garage.  Thanks for all the input.  Now to learn how to weld with it.
