Its been slow at work for awhile now, so the boss had me make him a fire box for his camp. All he wanted was a 3'X4'X8" box, but I added a skid and a grill, and when he saw what I had added he was excitied. Nothing fancy but made the boss happy.: Attached Images

Reply:Thanks guys, He was more impressed with the skid than the grill, because he said he doesn't have to shovel the box out to clean it, just drag it away, flip it over, drag it back.
Reply:If the boss is planning on leaving this at the campsite, you might want to drill a hole in each corner. Looks like the corners are fully welded and may hold a little water if the box isn't perfectly level (which it won't be).I've used old tractors wheels in a similar fashion. Roll them out to the campsite and lay them over. Sometimes you have to jamb something under the edge, or dig a little gap to get good airflow. Looks like you've already got this handled with the side slots. Also the gap at the bottom doesn't seem to be needed on narrower wheels (15inch and less). A tractor wheel, a piece of catwalk grate, and a few cast iron skillets makes some of the best food.Any reason you didn't put in a grate to hold the wood up from the ashes?Last edited by AndyA; 02-05-2010 at 03:57 PM.Dynasty200DX w/coolmate1MM210MM VintageESAB miniarc161ltsLincoln AC225Victor O/A, Smith AW1ACutmaster 81IR 2475N7.5FPRage3Jancy USA1019" SBAEAD-200LE
Reply:AndyA, yes I should have drilled some holes, but I don't think it will be out in the weather, he has a covered patio he puts it under. As for the grating, we didn't have any and he said it wasn't necessary. |
