Hi everybody, I'm new to this industry. I've been fitting pipe as an employee at a brand new data center for the past year. I've fitted `16" to 1" this has included: layout, cutting, bevel, fit, tack. After hours I have practiced running route and cover using NR233 .072 wire.2mo ago the contractors I was working with were laid off and I have taken over their position. The main pipe is installed and now it is up to me to finish the rest of the datacenter. 50,000sf. I'm installing the chillers for hvac.I'm catching grief from some of the salty dogs that run the place. The 3 ceo's coo's and investors are all friends of mine, but the guys running construction think that since I'm green IDK anything. Maybe they're right but I do know that I can run a great route and cover pass. I think that I would pass a 5g test but don't know where to start. With that background can some of the experienced guys here gimme some advice. What certification is there? I mostly run NR233 route and cover uphill in 5g. Is there a 'certification' that I can get? There are no WPS' and these guys think that I'm crazy when I ask them for one so that I can get qualified to perform them. How does all of this work? do I get a 'certification' in 5g? Or do we need a WPS and I get qualified to it? I'm not interested in learning stick as of now. I will maybe learn that in the future, but right now I just want to run NR233 or NR211 if that makes more sense. Guys, please give this newbie some constructive criticism/ advice. Thanks,Keith
Reply:Find yourself a CWI locally that will test you! He can give you the WPS or just tell you what he expects from you! Probably cost you a few hundred bucks for the cert.AEAD 200LE, Lincoln precision tig 185, Millermatic 251, Spectrum 625 extreme, Victor torch , Smithy 1220LTD. and Do all C-4 band saw , Always adding.
Reply:Hi Keith.Sounds like you and your group are in a tough position. Do you have an architect? Do you have permits? I have no clue what the piping will do but California is really tough on inner shield as a process for construction. What is the object of this segment of construction? Unless you don't mind a huge lawsuit down the road, I would not get in the middle of this mess. An independent qualified weldor and CWI will prevent any conflict of interest. Why was your contractor laid off?TerryWeld like a "WELDOR", not a wel-"DERR" MillerDynasty700DX,Dynasty350DX4ea,Dynasty200DX,Li ncolnSW200-2ea.,MillerMatic350P,MillerMatic200w/spoolgun,MKCobraMig260,Lincoln SP-170T,PlasmaCam/Hypertherm1250,HFProTig2ea,MigMax1ea.
Reply:First off from one guy to another, refer to the first pass as a ROOT pass when talking with the "salty dogs" and you will seem more informed. NR211 in structural steel construction is only good up to 3/8" for full penetration welds but I can't be sure about pipe joints. I have welded an entire 1 mile section of 6" pipe with 211 and it was fast. It would not pass an xray but it was not really critical. Time was more of the issue.CERTIFICATIONS:7018M- H.V.O10718M- H.V.O11018M- H.V.O9N10- H.V.O71T-1-HYM- H.O.V100S1 PULSE ARC 0,035- H.O.V100S1 PULSE ARC 0.045- H.O.VER70S-3 PULSE ARC 0.035 H.O.VER70S-3 PULSE ARC 0.045 H.O.VER5554- H.O.V |
