HELP with gas

Hey guys the welding store isn't open on weekends and my gas just ran out. I am welding up a roll cage for my truck. Anyways what do you think about Miging with pure argon because i have a full tank from my TIG.  Any thoughts? Its pretty critical that i get good penatration."This is ford country, get one or get out"

Reply:I would not use 100% argon for mig. I read somewhere that some Home Depot's will swap cylinders. They don't in my area but maybe around you. Tractor supply near me will swap on weekends, but I think you may pay a premium if the bottles are not theirs. Don't forget that your LWS may or may not accept the bottles from TS or HD. Possible options for you to think about. You might be able to make do with flux core. I would most likely just wait till Monday myself unless time was critical.Just something you might want to consider. I always try and make sure my bottle is at least 1/2 full on Friday afternoon before a weekend project. Some times my LWS will spot me a full bottle until Monday so I don't have to exchange the 1/2 full one on Friday. One good reason to get to know your LWS. I also have one small "emergency bottle" that I got for just such occasions before I got to know the LWS guy well.

Reply:For this exact reason I have been looking to score a second argon cylinder for my tig machine. I can get C25 7 days a week through the local Northern tool (which is Thoroughbred the same that some HD's carry) and happens to be WAY cheaper then the LWS but that is another story all together. Reply:well find one that sell or refill gas open 12 hours aday for everyday , like the one I get my gas fromor else stock more... dont get caught empty... risking without argon would mean poorer... welding.Unit in my fab shop dept:my good hand and team that trust me...A lone welder make art... a village full of welder make Miracles...
Reply:Why not just TIG the cage in since you have a TIG and ARGON?  TIG is great for cages and will most likely provide better fustion than with MIG.Build a Barstool Racer at BarFlyRacers.com!
Reply:Malich has one heck of a point. It will take longer and you may need multiple passes.One thing is that the tig welds will have a different apperance so if you want em all to match, well--you know.
