Friend of mine one a new powermig 215 a year ago. He kept it thinking he might use it but never did. He said he might sell it to me for $1000. Im actually in the market for a unit to mig 1/4 and 3/8 but a lot of it. Im deciding between the 255 and 350mp Lincolns.Although Im just wondering if im making a mistake by not taking the 215 just for misc. use just because of the deal. Does anyone have a 215 Lincoln. What kind of jobs have you seen it handle as far as thicker mild steel and long runs. Can it handle a lot of 1/4in runs?I don't want to be running it wide open.
Reply:I have one and I would not sell mine for $1000. Matter in fact, I would not sell it at all. I bought mine because I weld mostly 1/4". I have NEVER hit the duty cycle in short arc. I welded with it on 1/4" for 22 mins once without stopping and never had a problem. The only problem I had with it was I burned up the nozzle on the gun when spray arcing with that machine. Other than that I love it. It has a better arc than my MM350P and is easlier to dial in. I like tapped machines do to there ease of use. My 350P takes some time to get set up just perfect and I still have some problems with it. The only time the duty cycle did kick in was when I had it maxed out in spray arc with 98/2 gas with 550+ IPM on WFS. It lasted about 4 mins welding before the thermo tripped. I like the nice clean crisp arc it has and it welds well with 035 wire.I would say get it.Edit: It runs well on the thicker metal and I would not have a problem using it for 1/2" + on multi passes. If you do want to run lots of spray arc then go with the PM255C because the PM215 has a low duty cycle running that hot.Last edited by ace4059; 05-30-2008 at 01:19 AM.
Reply:I have a PM 215 and would not trade it for the world. Never let me down great machine I have never hit the duty cycle and I run it hard at times.Donnelly Small Engine & WeldingFoley AlabamaLincoln 225 TigLinoln 215 migHypertherm Powermax 65Ellis 1600 sawEllis 6000 belt grinderJD2 Model 4 tubing benderAtlas  12"X54" metal latheLots of large hammers
Reply:how long would ya'll say they will weld on 1/4" steel. Thats what I'll be using it for.I mean will it handle a ton of this thickness without a problem? or will I have to back off of it after a while.i'd like a little more info how how ya'll run your machine. this will help me decide if I want to get this machine on the side.
Reply:I weld mostly 10GA stuff and lots of it I have never hit the duty cycle I have however got the torch plenty hot and decided to lay it down for a while. I have welded quite a bit 3/16 plate and again never hit the duty cycle and welded hard for an hour or so. I cannot find a flaw with the machine for the money I really wanted the PM 255 but could not justify the money for it I have not regretted the decision yet.Donnelly Small Engine & WeldingFoley AlabamaLincoln 225 TigLinoln 215 migHypertherm Powermax 65Ellis 1600 sawEllis 6000 belt grinderJD2 Model 4 tubing benderAtlas  12"X54" metal latheLots of large hammers
