i plan to buy the machine either way but i was curious if it will run a carbon arc? lincoln doesnt list that it does, but i dont see why it wouldnt. also, this is probably a really stupid question, but is there such a thing as a spool gun that will run off of this? i would imagine it would need a box to make it cv. is there even such a thing, or am i just dreaming? i noticed this morning, one of the other mechanics at work using a torch to cut the tooth shank bolts off on a 3yrd loader. i thought to myself, a carbon arc in the right hands would make that job so much easier. so if it will run on my new machine i will take it to work when [U]I[U need it and run it of the ideal arc 250 that we have.Millermatic 211weldpack 3200 squirtgunsquare wave 200victory journeyman kitHypertherm 30xptoo much other crap to listtinkerer extraordinaire
Reply:I would get the code# and go to the lincoln website and down load the operators manual. It will tell you there if it will gouge. I don't think so. Look at the duty cycle of the machine, 225 amps isn't a lot to gouge with.I always have the manual read many times before I have the machine.DavidReal world weldin. When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:Here is the manual. http://www.mylincolnelectric.com/Cat...t.aspx?p=4876610% duty cycle @ 225 amps, 100% @ 90 amps. This is pretty wimpy for a lincoln.DavidReal world weldin. When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:what amperage would it take to weld say, 3/16" steel and 3/16 aluminum? i dont think i will be tigging anything bigger than that anytime soon. i wish it had a higher duty cycle but you get what you pay for. unfortunatly i cannot afford the 275 nor can i afford to run it.(according to the manual it pulls considerably more current than the 225 on the sane settings) i am partial to lincoln, so anything miller is out of the question. i currently have a mig welder that will do what i need as far as wire feed goes , but i plan to buy a power mig 215 next year. if i need to do really thick i can always stick it.btw you are right about the carbon arc, i realized that when i went to bed last night someday when i have a workshop and much more money to burn i will own the pt375.Millermatic 211weldpack 3200 squirtgunsquare wave 200victory journeyman kitHypertherm 30xptoo much other crap to listtinkerer extraordinaire
Reply:I have a Arcmastere 185, it has enough to do what ever I want. It will do 1/4" aluminum and steel takes less heat.If it doesn't have a water cooled torch, you will won't get near the duty cycle. I find one stick of filler is about all I can run before the torch gets too hot.DavidReal world weldin. When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
