Well got to use one tonight and I really like it. Can someone recommend one that will operate on 110v? I don't need it to cut anything super thick and 110v is all I have access to.  Looking to stay under 800$Torchmate 2x2 CNC with Flashcut CNC controlsHypertherm Powermax45 Esab ET220i Razorweld 195 MigRazorweld 200ac/dc TigTormach 770, Tormach xstechRazorweld, Vipercut/Vipermig, SSC Foot Pedal Dealer

Maybe someone had a good review of one and it broke and now they hate it.How about you don't post unless you have good information to share.Torchmate 2x2 CNC with Flashcut CNC controlsHypertherm Powermax45 Esab ET220i Razorweld 195 MigRazorweld 200ac/dc TigTormach 770, Tormach xstechRazorweld, Vipercut/Vipermig, SSC Foot Pedal Dealer

Reply:I don't see why it's such a big deal to ask.  If people don't want to talk about something said before, they can just refrain from posting.  I just sold my Miller Spectrum 375 and look forward to buying a Hypertherm PM30.  They both will do 3/8" steel and both run on 110.  IDK how thick they will cut on 110, and the Miller is a non auto link.  You have to flip a switch in the back of the unit.  If you do a search on Hypertherm Powermax 30, alot of threads will pop up where Jim Colt gives excellent info on the Hypertherm.  IIRC he does a detailed analysis of the PM vs the TD, the OP wound up with both because of some eBay debacle.  I'm going Hypertherm because of their proven reliability and service.  I'm going PM 30 because of its portability and the fact that I'm a hobby guy that will most likely never need to cut thicker than 1/2".  I have an OA for those situation anyway.  And BTW, the Miller is the same as the old PM 380.  They built it for Miller, but the torch is Miller only.  I sold it because of its weight and the stupid ICE 27 torch.  It's got a cheap plastic cover with a memory to it.  It always stays coiled up and is annoying as hell to me.TA Arcmaster 300CM3XMT 304S22P12 suitcase feederX-Treme 12VSOptima pulserTA161SMaxstar 150STLHypertherm PM45OP setupStihl 020AVP, 039, 066 Magnum
Reply:I'd have to agree the PM 30 is a good little machine. A bit higher than I believe you want to spend, but in my opinion well worth the money over a cheap import. The real question is why do you NEED a plasma? I see way too many guys who simply think it's "neat". They think if they spend big bucks on it it will make them cut better. Nope. The same basics apply to anything. you need to sit down and spend the time needed to learn to do things right. Throwing money at the issue seldom works. If you don't need to cut lots of thin sheet in odd patterns, cut stainless or alum, why do you NEED one? A plasma cut edge is not weld ready like a sheared or sawed edge. You will need to grind or sand back the edge in many cases, especially if it was hand cut. $800 would go a long ways towards basic tools and a ton of material for projects to practice on. Sorry I see a pattern in many of your posts. It looks like you are in a rush and simply want to "buy" your way to a better skill set. I see that pattern with many people today in many areas, both in diving, shooting and metal working. They simply don't want to spend the time it takes to learn the basics down cold. I once watched an older gentleman cut out some amazing shapes with nothing but a hammer and cold chisel old school. It took a long time, but when he was done it was a work of art. No fancy electronics, just lots of skill and time. Do yourself a favor and try and think about WHY you want a plasma. If you have a real need for one great, go for it. If you simply want to have the newest greatest toy, or think that suddenly it will solve all your cutting issues miraculously, you might want to step back and take a few minutes to reevaluate a few things..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:gamble, he hasn't had it long, but it does run on 110 and 220, TD cutmaster 42. brother in law got it with his tax money and he loves it, and it was less than a grand, not sure what thicknesses he can cut below 20amp but I know it says it can draw up to 30 amp on 110, so I would make sure you know what kind of power you can get if you are looking to use a standard outlet. he hasn't had it long enough for me to help you with that one. good luck!Hobart Handler 190 Century 90amp on FluxCraftsman 200amp buzzbox

Reply:I have the PM30 and it's a GREAT machine...I use it for 'weird things' because I think it's 'Neat'.  I have little to no experience with Tools and Such (wasn't introduced to such things until later in life..), but they are a HOOT!  You could do 'WORSE' spending your money on things like 'Food and Clothing'...(Drugs, Booze, etc...)Seriously though, it is a Fine machine and runs on both 110 and 220v and will cut BEAUTIFUL 'slag-less' designs and cuts in everything from 28ga. right on up to 1/16th if you set it right.  I've been able to get through 1/8" MS with no problem on 110v and it only seems to slow down on 1/4" (220v of course).  Like many of the newer units it's a 'Drag Tip', so you can basically 'Draw' with it, especially when it comes to the thinner stuff, which of course is a HUGE bonus when it comes to users with 'Not-so-Steady' hands!I highly recommend it... even though it may be a bit 'more' than $800.00 bucks.Cheers,Last edited by jman; 02-26-2012 at 08:38 AM.Miller Diversion 165120 amp Buzz BoxVictor Oxy/Ace Oxy/LPGSmith "Little" Oxy/LPGHypertherm Powermax 30Lot's of Misc. tools n' crap....
Reply:I'd find something that can run on 110 and 220, that way you have the flexibility if you wind up going to a place with 220 power?Miller Performance AD Helmet - Camo Edition Soon to have: Jackson HSL 100 - Forest Digi CamoMiller Thunderbolt AC/DC((Currently at welding school))

Reply:Hypertherm PowerMax 30. Made in USA by Americans. Best cut capacity for any 115 volt plasma hands down. Uses thier finecut technology which I can say is near the industry "high definition" quality cuts. Nozzles and electodes are highest quality and last twice as long as standard consumables.Same as fax machines. It is not the cost of the machine that kills you, it is the cost of cartridges. Same goes for plasma cutters and consumables. You can find Hypertherms sold in most local welder supply houses, and you can get electrodes and nozzles just about anywhere. You can buy genuine nozzles and electrodes in bulk from http://www.hypermaxonline.com/   if you do production cutting, and this is a production quality unit. $800 will only put you in a throwaway situation.Enough said.Last edited by shovelon; 02-26-2012 at 12:23 PM.Reason: visionWeld like a "WELDOR", not a wel-"DERR" MillerDynasty700DX,Dynasty350DX4ea,Dynasty200DX,Li  ncolnSW200-2ea.,MillerMatic350P,MillerMatic200w/spoolgun,MKCobraMig260,Lincoln SP-170T,PlasmaCam/Hypertherm1250,HFProTig2ea,MigMax1ea.

Reply:I would recommend Hypertherm also, if you can find one you can afford. I recently saw a PM30 for sale in my area for $800.If you are patient, you should eventually see a quality used machine for sale in your price range.I may get roasted for mentioning this , but I demo'd a Longevity Plasma Cutter at a local repair shop, and I thought the thing worked real good. I think it was about a $500. machine. They have a 5 yr. warranty, but how long one would last and the prospect of shipping and exchanging a bad one is cause for concern. I would say, if you are a serious fabricator, spend the money and get something tough. If you are just an occasional user of a P. Cutter, a China machine may be all you would need.
