im learning lap and fillet welds on 1/4 inch plate with 6011 rod. 95 amps, reverse polarity. pause and whip motion. 10* to 30* drag travel angle.the welds look even, good penetration, no real problems with the welds at all. just my slag dosnt want to chip away. it breaks up to dust almost. i have a real hard time getting it out of there.is this just the nature of the rod or can i fix it with better technique?Lincoln Square Wave 175 TIGLincoln 110v flux core welder (my 1st)Clarke 180EN MIG
Reply:6011 doesn't make as much slag as other rods. i normally knock it off with a wire wheel on a 4 1/2 grinder.
Reply:you sound like your doin everything right, try pulling a slightly longer arc with 6011 and it helps. you will see.Nothing Ever Got Done By Quitting, Never Give Up.
Reply:thats they way it is, it will come off in small peices. If its for a test i use a grinder with wire wheel if its allowed. or hammer and chisel if thats what the test calls for.
Reply:ok cool...i just wasnt sure what the deal was. i use a wire wheel, cause we cut it in half to check it. if its just for practice, i use a chip hammer and a file.Lincoln Square Wave 175 TIGLincoln 110v flux core welder (my 1st)Clarke 180EN MIG
