I want to add removable sides to my flat deck trailer, what is a good method of making the stake hole for a 2x4?I figure there must be something that can be welded on to the side, I also going to weld on something for some straps.
Reply:I buy these from my local steel supplier http://www.redtrailers.com/ShowItem.asp?id=C-J72 Can't make a hole for that price. Travis

Reply:I was just thinking today, does anyone make aluminum stakes for aluminum bodies?I also seem to have a hard time finding steel/aluminum that fits inside stake pockets tightly.Anyone have a special combo? I'm mostly curious about all aluminum, as I am planning a flatbed build.
Reply:They don't make steel that fits tightly in the pockets. Unless you want to add some metal to em.Millermatic DVIMillermatic 251Older buzz box Cheap 120 welder

Reply:I make my own stake pockets. I have a local shop bend me a piece of 1/4" plate 5' long into a C channel shape that is just the right size. Then I bandsaw it in 2-3" deep pockets. They end up costing me about $2 each. They are nice and beefy and just the right size.My name's not Jim....

Reply:I couldn't touch that here is $50 just to fire the generator up to make the bend. It is way cheaper for me just to get a 5'- of 2x4x3/16 or better yet just buy a 20'-Visions SteelWasilla Alaskahttp://www.facebook.com/album.php?ai...5&l=c32ed1320fwelderstourchessawsgrinders
Reply:Some times I use structural channel, but they won't fit a 2x4 so you have to space them 1/4" or more then butter them up with the mig.
