I have a Lincoln SP 135 and Im having a problem with the wire getting balled up at the feed roller.  It welds fine for a while and then stops feeding the wire.  It isnt arcing to the tip either.  It just stops, and eventually the wire spool will start to spin again and the the wire just balls up at the feed roller.  I have thought maybe I need a new liner?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.ThanksChris
Reply:I would replace the tip and liner, and I think your problem would be solved.I'm a Lover, Fighter, Wild horse Rider, and a pretty good welding man......
Reply:maybe this might helphttp://millerwelds.com/resources/imp...ur-skills/mig/go to the mig trouble shoot video... it gives tips about when your wire forms a birdsnest in your machine or spool gunhttp://www.aloumac.ca/

Reply:Back the tension off on your wire drive. It should slip before it birdnests. The difference between art and craft is the quality of the workmanship. I am an artist.
Reply:I had this happen with my lincon too.  My problem was the little retainer screw that held the gun to the machine.  It was just loose enough to let the gun slip out slightly and fowl things up.  I was having the same problems, reseated the gun, tightened that retainer screw, checked my tention and have not had a problem since.
Reply:Did you change wire size? If you made a significant change in size you need to turn the drive roller over. There is a slot for big wire and a slot for small wire. Howver this only caused my smaller wire not to feed.
Reply:One more thing is the spool, if it's too loose it can free spin, more so with the bigger spools.

Reply:I will reseat the gun tomorrow.  And buy new tips.  Ive heard of using a lubricant in the liner.  And also, I think lincoln sells their migs for use with .025, .030, and .035 wire sizes.  And Im using a 10lb. spool of .023 wire.  It used to work fine, as I have not used the mig in a while.  Im betting its the gun needing to be adjusted.  A new liner cant hurt tho.  Thanks for all the help guys.Chris
Reply:Yah make SURE you're using the right size roller for the wire.  Using too big a roller can cause the wire to slip around while it's under pressure in the roller, causing it to kink.  IF you haven't used your machine a lot (probably a good hundred hours of actual usage) I wouldn't think your liner needs replacing - it should be fine as long as you haven't bent it badly.  Take the liner out and take a look at each inch of it to look for kinks. As for wire tension, you should have JUST enough tension to push the wire through the cable without slipping.  The best way to do this is to put as much tension as you can on the rollers, let out about a half foot of wire from the tip, put on a welding glove and let it curve off your glove with the trigger pulled, then keep backing off the tension until the rollers start to slip.  This way you know it's got enough to push through without any resistance, and it will slip if there is resistance.Although you said it isn't arcing out the end either, which is very strange.  Make sure the + and - contacts inside the machine are tight (of course).  My guess is that it stops arcing which pushes the wire against the workpiece and because the tension is too tight, it's backing up (birdsnesting) in the machine.  But why it's not arcing at times, is most likely a completely separate problem which is causing the birds nests inside the machine.Of course if the wire isn't coming out of the contact tip and that's why it's not arcing, and that's what's causing the wire to birdsnest, just put on a new contact tip "A winner isn't someone who doesn't lose, a winner is someone who doesn't quit."
Reply:Lincoln 180T. This happened to me when I overdid spool cover holding screw and once when pressed drive roll too much. Watch for those - apparently Lincoln is sensitive to those....
Reply:zodiac, it arcs fine, it still gets stopped up even when i just run the wire through without striking an arc with it.  I took the gun off, took the liner out, and put it all back together.  I took the entire wire feed mech. out and put it back in and put two bolts in place of the plastic clips that held it in place to the front cover.  The brass terminal where the gas and (-)or(+) wire hook to and the gun clips into was loose and the bolts made it tight.  It worked fine and welded great for a while.  Then it would slip, and the wire would act stuck.  It didnt birds nest because i took a lot of the tension off, I had way up before.  But I have to whip the gun around to get the wire to move freely through the gun cable.  COuld that be a liner problem?Chris
Reply:New liner and contact tip.   David Real world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.

Reply:i think the problem is the wire.if the wire is dirty ,or some oil on the wirefeeder will become not  fluencyI am adminstrator of a chinese welding forum.www.weld188.com/bbswelcome to the web.
