So, I've exhausted my list of suppliers and search capabilities.  I need to find a place to buy two 9 foot long precision moly or stainless steel tubes with a 1.5" OD and a wall thickness of between .125" and .250".  I can obviously find standard tube in this size, but I actually need precision tubing.  This tube will be used as a light weight pair of linear guides (using round linear guide bearings) which is why standard 1.5" OD tube won't work.  I want either stainless or moly so that I don't have to deal with too much surface rust over time (moly is fine since it's at least a bit more rust resistant than carbon.Does anyone know of a supplier who can get this?  So far the only place I've found that could get it will only deal in bulk purchases (basically, 2,000lbs or more) which comes out to about 1,980lbs more than I would actually need. Thanks in advance if anyone can help --Wintermute"No man's knowledge here can go beyond his experience." - John Lockewww.improvised-engineering.comManufacturer Agnostic:Blood----------Sweat---------Tears----|------------------|----------------|----Lincoln Red, Miller Blue, Esab Yellow

They also sell what you're trolling for.
Reply:Since you're asking/looking for sources for 'precision tubing',to fit linear bearings, I would suggest that you consider your requirements for:-size---you stated 1.498-1.502 OD--surface finish ? --(microinch)-straightness ?-roundness ?-presence of dings, dents, marks?-packaging for shipment ? (crating is needed)All of the above, normally imply the use of ground stock, unless you can finda vendor that will commit to the above, in writing, contracturally.Blackbird

Reply:Originally Posted by wintermuteThe surface finish of all precision tubing is fine enough to work for what I need.  Roundness as well.  If there's a dent...well, yeah, that's an issue, but one I would have to deal with in replacing that rail.  Straightness, much the same as deflection for an issue, and some is acceptable to me with the capability to straighten the tube while in it's tensioned position.I understand that you are trying to help, but I've done the analysis that I need to do.  I will be laser mic'ing both tubes after they are recieved and if I need to change the specifics of the bearings, I can.  --Wintermute

If so, I'm interested.
