I wasn't sure where to put it, it's not really off topic, but i didn't want to put it in the job link section...Anyway.Does you resume say that you're a welder? or a weldor? On mine, it says Welder.Only because, I have done Weldor before, and people tell me that I have a typo on my resume, blah blah.and I don't want Human Resouces depts thinking that I can't even spell my own trade! so I just keep it as a Welder, even though it's not correct.Job listings/postings are always for Welders, I don't think I've ever even seen one looking for a Weldor. So what do you guys have on yours and why?
Reply:Hass, I'd consider, out of principle, adding a definition, perhaps with footnotes, to the resume that explains the spelling. It may not help you get a job, but you will be smarter than your prospective employer.
Reply:Hass, they are both nouns. Weldor used to be an "Adjectival Noun" meaning "the person who welds".As screwed up as language is getting I suspect next we'll see "Welding Technician ".Then I think I'd just spit... Welder is used now, and my 5th grade teacher would just kick the snot out of me for saying that.Matt
Reply:I don't keep a resume. If I need one, then I create a new one. But I found a Tee shirt that non-weldors might appreciate. (You might not want to wear this to an interview,~~~~~~ but then again, you might.) {The contents of this tee-shirt do not reflect the views, thoughts or opinions of the staff. They are posted strictly for grammatical purposes only. Your opinions may vary.} Attached ImagesCity of L.A. Reply:Remember, those screening your resume probably know little and care less about weldor or welder. The accepted spelling is welder. If you want to make a point then do it. When Isend out a resume, I am looking for work, not trying to make a point or change the world.
Reply:I put weldor on my business cards. If people make a comment about it I tell them I have a "welder" in the truck, but they'll need a "weldor" a.k.a. me , to opperate it.Or I tell them a welder is a welding machine, and while I may weld like a machine I'm actually a weldor, or person that uses the machine. If you can make it fun trivia people will find it interesting. But don't try to show off your grammer skills. No one likes a smart @$$. If you don't feel like explaining it, just go with welder. Or you could just wear tangledriver's T-shirt to the interview.

Reply:AWS A.3 Standard Welding Terms and Definitions defines "welder" as being someone who welds. "Weldor" is not recognized, more of a slang term. If I was looking at someones resume I wouldnt care if it said either or.

Reply:Mine says "Software Engineer"...though I must admit that I didn't know people who weld are called weldors and I've been incorrectly using the word welder. Now I know better!

Reply:I don't have one but if I did I guess it would say "longline fisherman"
Reply:Never heard weldors before. Must be an American thing, always thought it was a typo. In Australia, a welder is usually someone who can weld but is usually not a qualified tradesman. I'm a boilermaker which is a trade attained after 3 or 4 years as an apprentice

Reply:I'm pretty sure that in my GMAW Handbook from Millerit says that Weldor is a term that is no longer used and has been replaced with Welder.I am sure that if you go to millerwelds.com and search for weldor you get a few pages of links to the thread "You might be a weldor if...." and that does sound a lotlike "You might be a redneck if...." You will also get somestuff from Canadian posters.Don't flame me, it's a fact.Interesting fact. If you type weldor in the reply box on thissite it puts the red squiggly line underneath as if it is a misspelled word and it's suggest welder, weld or, weld-or, and theneldorado lol . You don't get that same line underneaththe words squiggly or redneck though!Just saying......How do you know the blacksmith's dog? When you hollar at him he makes a bolt for the door!
Reply:its a resume..means you are advertising and looking for a customer..dont piss him off and be a smart ***..now when you have a business card,  you are in a different position and weldor may attract the curious inquiry..Fusion Technician  ;'))
