I am redoing my trailer to handle a 4500 lb tractor. I am going to use C3 X 4.1 for the ribs on 24 inch centers. Trailer is framed with C4 x 5.4. It has a pair of 5200 lb axles. I know the 4 inch channel is a little light, but if I go in with 3 inch channel then top with wood I would think it should be strong enough. I have plenty of all 3 rods. I am leaning toward 6011 for the pentration purposes but love to burn 6013, and 7014. I think since it is a structural type of weld I should stay with penetration. Am I on the right track?BrianHH135 MigEverlast PowerUltra 205Century heavy duty 250dc/295ac stickA/O system, victor 450 series gauges w/cutting torch and j100 torch.
Reply:Yeah use either 6010 or 6011. rougher start and more spatter but you will get the penetration you need for something of your sizehttp://www.aloumac.ca/
Reply:but then again depending on how rough you are on your trailer, you dont need to root out 7014, the penetration is still good and its alot nicer as you mentioned.http://www.aloumac.ca/
Reply:root out or rule out? root out sounds like you need a grinder..
Reply:Use the rod you are the most proficient at. If you are bevelling edges and using proper prep it will not matter which one you use. Penetration is relative to joint design, rod size, and amperage. Me personally I would probably run the 6013 or the 7014. As that is what I run as my general purpose mild steel rods, but to answer your question any of the three will produce a quality weld if YOU do your part. Let's see some pics. ~JacksonI'm a Lover, Fighter, Wild horse Rider, and a pretty good welding man...... |
