Reply:All done with stick most likely..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Actually, a government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we'll ever see on this earth! Ronald Reagan
Reply:Frontend loaders go thru hell yours has been repaird. Most loader are scrap when they get that old but yours is one of the heavy ones.May have been on a backhoe at one time.Does it have a front pump?
Reply:I got it from the second owner 9 years ago.  He bought it from the original owner in 1961-I have the registration from then.  It has a front pump.  The bucket was replaced last year.  My buddy's a welder and helped me cut off the old bucket and weld a new one on with 7018.   That's how my new welding hobby was spawn.  It has new lines, but other than what's listed above, it's all original.  It has always been outside as well.  No backhoe, unfortunately.  I thought the cuts and welds looked cool.  Must have been torch cut and stick welded. And actually has a plate that says "Ford" with a PN.  I made a mistake.  The implements are Dearborn Equipment, not the loader.Last edited by Drf255; 03-19-2012 at 05:04 AM.TA Arcmaster 300CM3XMT 304S22P12 suitcase feederX-Treme 12VSOptima pulserTA161SMaxstar 150STLHypertherm PM45OP setupStihl 020AVP, 039, 066 Magnum
Reply:With extra pump and rear weights your tractor has it can do a lot of work. I think ford made a good tractor. Times have changed a lot this was someones main big tractor at one time. Some farmer could have used it and mayed a good liveing not any more.
Reply:The tractor I learned on, and the one my Dad learned on, was an old 801.  It was pretty new when he learned on it in the mid-to-late '50's, and pretty old by the time I learned on it in the mid '80's.  I still remember the faded "Powermaster" scroll print on the side of the hood.  I've never driven an 8N, but I assume the two are pretty close.  The 801 was a diesel.  Ours had the same segmented-style rear wheel weights that yours appears to have.  It was our smallest tractor, and was traded for a 4WD JD 2155 in the late '80's or early '90's, which then became our new smallest tractor.Sorry for the rambling - this tractor just brings back memories.
Reply:That pocket gusset with flame cut pieces does not make sense.  My guess is that it is something done after manufacture.  The vertical is done in position, something that would never be done in manufacturing because it is much easier and faster to toss the assembly on a crane or positioner.  The other welds look like GMAW.   Just imagine if you had to replace that unit with brand new.  It would cost a Kings ransom.  Perfect size for orchard and vineyard work.
