Many comments through the post deal with people having difficulty seeing through their bi-tri focals.Buy some computer glasses. That is what I use when working on my computer as my tri-focals causes a constant up/down head movement looking for focus in different areas. Same with welding.Computer glasses are made to be single focus but at a fixed distance - like a computer monitor or weld bead.Just like regular glasses, they are out of focus for long and short but perfect for intermediate. The only requirement is that you tell the Opto the working distance you normally use and he will set your prescription to match. That means that you have to weld and have someone else measure to get the accurate distance. You will still have a "working range" withing that distance, but you want it in the middle, not one end or the other. You could also get Welding Tri-focals with the middle band being quite wide and set for your working distance. You will still see far and near, but through a narrower window. The Opto can make what works for you IF you tell him.
Reply:I prefer just buying the drug store reading glasses. They're cheap, easy to find, and easy to try different magnifications until you get the right one. Get the large full size lenses and not the half lenses. They work better under the hood.
