When welding rectangular tubing (.120) I get good penetration on three sides, but the outside corner I always seem to burn through. obviously the metal is thinner there. What are your techniques and settings for this area. My machine is millermatic 180, I'm using .030 with Ar/CO2 settings 4.5 heat 55 speedWhich are the welder reccomondationsTHANK YOUScottMillermatic 180
Reply:Just speed up around the corners a bit; it sounds like you are stalling at the corner a little. Your settings sound good, so I would not worry about that. And then, after so much work...... you have it in your hand, and you look over to your side...... and the runner has run off. Leaving you holding the prize, wondering when the runner will return.
Reply:A little practice to find the best setting and you should be able to zip it straight down. I also knock the edge down a little with a file to give a little more weld surface.
Reply:Thanks very much guys. I guess practice is the key ScottMillermatic 180
Reply:This is the one thing welding down hand is good for. outside corners and end caps. its only for looks so just giver a shot, play with the heat and travel speed and post a pic of the results, or at the least an update of how it went.Nothing Ever Got Done By Quitting, Never Give Up.

Reply:Once joint is tacked four ways, weld outside corners first. This allows a colder weld due to the absents of the pre-heat caused by the other three welds.Miller TrailBlazer 251Miller HF-250-1Miller MaxStar 150 STLHyperTherm PowerMax 380 plasmaLincoln PowerMig 180Millermatic 252Miller Diversion 180 |
