Line bore job

Typical bore job in the world of equipment repair. Ended up beefing face of stick as well as the pin boss on the bucket. I dug grease out of the bore of the stick which resembled play-dough... nice. Attached Images

Reply:I take it you bored and installed bushings rather than spray weld and rebore to original specs. We lucked out on my buddy's trackhoe. The stick and boom were only worn in the bushings, so we could cut them out and press in new ones. The pivot on the house how ever didn't have bushings. We had to pull it and send it out to be sprayed and the bored back to spec.Nice job..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Reply:DSW, I did weld multiple passes and bore to the origional specs, I only "over bore" when its nasty Cast and the job requires it. Thanks
Reply:Ironhead works, It takes a good 8hrs. to do a normal job similar to this one, minus having to face the stick or bucket. If you were to find a GOOD used machine it would definately be cost effective but not steady work. Thanks

Reply:The Machine is a Climax 5500 and we dont have a welding head for this machine... I always weld by hand. Thanks
Reply:Im fascinated with line boring jobs and set ups.   I know a man that made a nice set up neaar here for his shop, and have a welderfriend that built one from a hollow shaft worm drive box and some all treads to bore out the stabilizer pins on a dozer.    His will face cut he has a boring head from a mill that he modifyed with a catch to run the tool out every rotation of the head.         I have seen a small set up that used a hand drillmotoer on a stand that pivoted on the stand to feed it.  It was usd on smaller backhoes and such. It had a hand feed  for smaller tight jobs to.   I saw it used on a crane jib that was egg shaped.    Does your machine use the cones to set the alignment in the bore?  Im thinking of building a simple setup for personal use in my shop.
Reply:I do have alignment cones for both dia. bars. NOTE: be careful with the cones, they are mainly for reference only on holes that are waisted. A good fine tune after welding and set up is neccessary. If the bore is just slightly damaged you may only need to reference before cutting, without adjusting. The weight of the bar and tooling alone makes the cones a dream. Good luck to you, post pics if you can. By the way, one set of cones are made from a very hard plastic/rbber and are solid, the other is steel with three "wings" on each and adjust.
Reply:What would be a reasonable $ cost for a unit like this , new? used?. Also do they have them to do the smaller equipment like the Mini excavators, seems like all of these need help. Reply:We bought our set, which was sold as a demo for 26,000. It included the measuring tool, 5 total bars, a facing tool and the motor kit. I personally saw a machine almost identical to ours, only a little older go at auction for 2,600. There are reducers avaliable for a 1" bar used for those smaller machines. We have a seperate machine in this size but its definately as user friendly.
