Spare tire mount ideas?

dlturman posted a tire mount for his trailer and I don't want to hijack his thread, but that is something I have been toying with doing on the trailer I made, I made the trailer from an old travel trailer, but because I retained the propane tank mount I can't mount the tire on the tongue, and it sits pretty low to the ground also, so any ideas where I could mount it and not be in the way?I have always put it under the ATV's but this last year the strap broke on the back roads, so I figure it needs to be mounted somehow.Any ideas?
Reply:The bed is full width, otherwise I would put it on the side in front of a fender. Since that does not seem to fit, how about on the side of the tongue? Attached ImagesCity of L.A. Reply:I've seen them done under the tongue, but I don't think you have the height to make this work well. On equipment trailers it's common to mount them over the fenders. I've also seen guys add a bar underneath with a large nut welded to it. The tire mounts to the deck, and then the retainer screws down thru the deck into that nut to secure it. Last idea, add another front tire mount to the truck..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Reply:Your original location on the tongue would be fine.  You could also mount it on the front bar of the trailer on either side, too.  Me, I'd go for a pillar mount directly in front of one of the fenders so the wheel sits flush with the outside edge of the trailer.
Reply:We mount the propane tank on the tongue rack from when it was a trailer, but you know I could do around the fender, I do want one day to make removable sides, but I will have to see how it will all work out.thanks again for the help guys.
Reply:Remember to mount it on the right side of the trailer if you put it by the fender. Reply:Do you put propane tanks in the holder? If you don't, I would get rid of it and put it there. If you do, I would make a post that comes up "between" the propane tanks and then mount the tire where the plywood is on the tongue. Attached Images
Reply:Between the wheels, under the deck, = no clearance problems. unbolted from the top deck, drops to ground. Reply:I went to a junkyard and got the spare tire chain setup that matched my pickup and welded it to the bottom of the deck so the spare is tight underneath and doesnt sun rot.  I dont have to carry extra tools to get it out either.
