I just bought two 4'x8' 16g sheets.  I have never gotten large sheets before.  They are both really warped, or dished.  Is this just normal?  When laying flat the edges are curled up about 1.5-2" off the floor.  Or the center is up and the edges down, depending on which way you "pop" it.  I am guessing this is probably normal, likely an effect of being rolled, but just wanted to check.  I'll be cutting them in half to use on my 4'x4' plasma table, so I imagine there will be less bow in the smaller peices.
Reply:No, that is not normal. Your supplier screwed you.Tim Beeker.
Reply:You should take them back, they will not straighten out. I can't imagine them being used on the top of a welding table so if they are used somewhere that they can be bent the bend might make them look all right.  Mac
Reply:Ok, thanks for the info.  Seemed odd to me.  I'll have to give them a call.  I've had other issues with them with tubing.  Order .065 1" square and get some with square corners and clean bare metal, and others with rounded corners and black color/ mill scale.  Sent from my Casio Commando using Tapatalk

Reply:I  work with a lot of 16g sheet metal on my plasma table. I buy quite a few 4x8 sheets.16g will bend if not stored perfectly flat. It is not thick meterial. If your cutting yours into 4x4 for your table, I am sure you could dish the 2 pieces back to nearly flat to be used on your table with no issues. This is more important of your table is a x/y table and less important if your table is a x/y/z table.JasonLincoln Idealarc 250 stick/tigThermal Dynamics Cutmaster 52Miller Bobcat 250Torchmate CNC tableThermal Arc Hefty 2Ironworkers Local 720
Reply:Pretty common in my experience.  It's usually caused by loading/unloading with a forklift.  You just work around it."Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/

Reply:Thanks guys.  I'll see how they are once I cut them in half.  I have the advanced height control on my table, so it should be able to work around it.  I'll know next week.  Still need to finish the downdraft system for it.Sent from my Casio Commando using Tapatalk
Reply:A lot of light guage sheet is not shipped as sheet.  It is rolled up like T paper.  They unroll and cut on a flying shear. If the straightening rolls and not set right you get funny things happening.  Large shops can flatten out sheets.  I saw such a machine in a shipyard.  It was a series of rollers that made the plate bend up and down as it went through. They called it the "mangler"  I have no idea if that was a nickname or a proper name.  A few passes under the guidance of a skilled operator and the sheet was flattened.  It would take out shrinkage cupping caused by flame cut edges.
