I have a ranger 9 and I need to weld some aluminum on my boat. The material is thin, like 1/8 inch. I was wondering if there is a spool gun out there that is economically priced that is also compatible with my machine. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Reply:Spool gun and 1/8" old aluminum don't mix well.Spool guns just need power to drive the motors, if Lincoln don't make an adaptable spool gun adapter all you would need to do is apply the appropriate power. there you go . But that is gong to be spendy no mater how you go about it. Unless you can see your self welding 50 or more pounds of wire a year you might just be better off finding someone with the set up you can rent borrow or pay the get the boat in the water.Last edited by Fat Bastard; 03-25-2012 at 12:07 AM.
Reply:Well I would like to start welding aluminum. Working on the boat is really just my excuse for buying a new toy. probably will not lay 50 pounds of wire a year, but i would like to learn how too. So if anyone out there runs a ranger 9 and has a spool gun set up they really like let me know.
Reply:When I bought my ranger9 used it came with a Lincoln mig module that uses a spool gun it works great. Not sure if they still make them but they probably do.
Reply:I started off with tigging this beast, but I had a total of 4 frames to build. I said screw this and bought the module and gun from a member on this board to hook up to my ranger9. The material is 2"sq 1/8" 6061. Once I had it dialed in, I had to move pretty fast but damm I saved me 3 days of work. |
