Odd bright flashing...

I have a small trailer that I have been working on @ home, there was a crack in the frame so b4 I patched it up I filled in the crack...because its so thin and its open I turned the welder down to 16g steel so it would not burn through, When I started doing this there would be a odd brighter then norm flash...it was not all the time...but it was so bright that I had to turn my glass darker...any reason why this would happen when it was turned down to 16g?Miller 211 & Spoolmate 100Miller Diversion 165Miller Spectrum 875

Reply:I do not have any photos. I am welding on a broken frame that is very thin, I am using a MM211 with .30 wire, turned down to 16 gage, I am on 220v, I keep burning though, So I am doing a little @ a time to keep the temp down, but when using the MM211 on 16g I keep getting really bright flash's way brighter then when I am welding any thing thicker..just really odd...Miller 211 & Spoolmate 100Miller Diversion 165Miller Spectrum 875
Reply:are using an auto dimming shield? if so, it sounds like it might be the sheild
Reply:I agree it sounds like the shield. I've had it happen TIG welding with a Thermal Arc auto darkening. It has four sensors and one was loose and had fallen into the frame and seems to work fine for MIG but not for TIG.
