Hello! I just bought me another welding rig to go back to pipeline again Only concern is the welding machine...oldest machine I had ever owned was a sa200 84 model. Just wanted to get yall thoughts, and what to look for or fined a new machine lol. Guy I bought it from just came off the line with so doesn't really need any work...he got a inspection job. Will post pics later of it
Reply:68 Redface? I'd stay away from that machine at all costs. Worst damn machine Lincoln ever made. Every time you turn around you'll be dropping $500 into it not mention they burn up grinders. I just hate to see a guy land a new job and get run off cause his machine isn't reliable.... So I'll tell you what I'm gonna do.... Since I've got some experience with these machines and I just piddle around the ranch, I'll go ahead and take this one off your hands for $400 dollars and you can put that money toward a nice shiny vantage.
Reply:Thanks....a friend of mine bought a vantage, great machine til you are out in the middle of B.F.E. and your circuit board goes out $2k plus later not to mention the down time and having to order the part plus installation. His thoughts, it was a good machine...keep it simple he said, go figure!
Reply:I was just pulling your chain man. The redfaces are highly sought after. If I could find a deal on one I'd pick it up in heart beat running or not. But if you really want something new that you won't have to worry about http://www.lincolnelectric.com/en-us...s/big-red.aspx Doesn't get much simpler than that. But seriously if your in or near Texas and want to sell it maybe we could work out a deal.
Reply:I would say either take the red face and put some money into it, like adding arc force and electronic ingnition or buy you a new SAE 300 Lincoln. I have a 1953 200 shorthood that we have completely rebuilt and upgraded and it is by far the best machine I have ever welded with! Had to work out a lot of bugs along the way but it purrs like a kitten and welds better than any other engine drive, guaranteed!
Reply:Wheres the pics?72 Chevy Cummins Project94 3500HD Welding Rig build Sold NOV 2011
Reply:LMAO! Just don't want any problems when starting a new job, plus buying somebody used stuff. I pick my rig up this weekend. 99 model f350 7.3L crew cab with welding bed and of course....68 redface lol. turn key rig. Soon as I get it I will post pics. Thanks again
Reply:i always have another machine in the wings ready for action, never been run off yet.these older ones if maintained will outlast our lifetimes worth of use and when they do wear out they are cheap enough to rebuild it makes them one of the best investment for those that need this type of machine, and plus with the new EPA regs going into effect come 2013 it is going to make buying a new machine a ridiculous expense that i dont think will last 50,60 70yrs like these old work horses do....good luck out there
Reply:Here is my '53. I promise that with a little work these old copper machines can be the best welders you will ever use! Attached Images
