Hey guys, here's a plate I've been practicing on the last few days.  3/32" 6013, DCEP, 90-100 Amps.  Thought I was on EN, but I wasn't, so I switched and tried laying some beads on another plate, which didn't turn out as good as I would have thought.  But any way, the slap didn't just fall off, but barley took any chipping for the most part.  I know I need to find a way to steady myself more, as I tried sitting and standing and I find my angle diminishing towards the end of each stringer. Thanks Attached Images
Reply:It looks like you were trying to weave and make dimes.  Forget them and make nice smooth stringers especially to start. How thick is the plate?Nice job cleaning it off before you started.Keep at it, looking good.Real world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:i agree try straight stringers when you start. Then move to other techniques.
Reply:That's the thing.  While they are big fat welds, they are just stringers, no weaving, no whipping.  It's 1/4" plate, but I didn't give the welds anytime to cool, other then the 30-45 seconds of chipping/brushing.  Maybe I should give some more time, or the the stringers too close and some of the last bead is heating up and getting into the current puddle? Thanks for the comment on the cleaning.  At first I just wire wheeled it, but whenI realized I missed the galv. coating, I went to town with the grinder.
