Reply:I'm impressed! Another forum member who believes in the efficacy of mitered joints; takes lots of care in the fitup, then TIGS the whole she-bang!??? Do the leveling feet at the one end provide enough resistance to the pushing force while using the joiner--to keep the joiner from sliding on that smooth concrete floor??Blackbird

Reply:Dave / TanglediverThe purpose of the feet are to elevate the one end of the stand off of the caster when the machine is used.  The feet have a textured pad on the surface and grip very well.  Not to mention the jointer weighs about 1500lbs.Thanks everyone for their comments.  I visit this sight serval times a week but I choose to stay in the backround most of the time.  I have learned quite abit from the contributors both pros and hobby guys.  I thought this project was worthy of sharing. Thanks again to everyone who shares their opinions/ knowledge.BrianBrianLincoln Mig 215Miller 211Victor Torch SetMiller Maxstar 200SDMiller Syncrowave 250DX Tig runnerMiller Trailblazer 302 running on LPMiller Extreme 12 VS SuitcaseEllis 1600 BandsawMiller xmt350 CC/CVLincoln Vantage 300

Reply:A jointer puts a very flat edge along wood pieces. They are used along with planers, for example, to flatten and square wood peices for assembly of furniture quality projects. 1500 pounds is a lot of jointer!!City of L.A. Reply:I was wondering what sort of jointer you had that would require that sort of roller stand.   Very nice job.  The cart with jointer on top now looks light duty.   The job is worth at least 2 attaboys & a thumbs up.   There is so much pride that can be taken from a job well done.Neil
Reply:NeilThanks.  We had a few hours in the cart but it is done and we are pleased with the outcome. This is a 12" Heavy Duty jointer made in the USA by Northfield.http://www.northfieldwoodworking.com/jointers/heavy.htmHa! The cart did look tiny compared to the jointer the first time they where together.  It is now painted black and looks sweet. My brother is a cabinet maker by trade and we have a shop setup in our garage.  Most of our large machines are on wheels since space is at a premium and we have not found a better solution to move 1600lbs around the garage.  We have made several of the same type for a few other of our toys.  Due to the lack of space the machine needs to be mobile to allow running of long boards. The arbor press and bandsaw have similar carts for them so they can be tucked away when not in use.Happy New Year. Reply:I've done a bit of wood working myself.   I made all the trim moldings, stair case railings etc. in my house.  Most all of it from 12'-16' stock.   Pretty easy to figure 16' infeed + machine + 16' outfeed.   Really hard to do inside a 36' building.  But I wanted to keep splicing to a minimum on crown mold, chair rail & baseboards.

Reply:Sweet cart, nice jointer, and nice work with the Powermatic 30 belt sander! I am in the final stages of restoring a Powermatic 30 myself, I've got to get my lathe setup again so I can make some turn knobs for it but I plan on using it for project similar to this.“Life is not a journey to the grave with intentions of arriving safely in a pretty well-preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out and loudly proclaiming ... WOW! What a ride!”
Reply:Thanks Guys.  All the machine carts are still in operation. We purchased the leveling feet from McMaster Carr.  (Mcmaster.com)I don't have the part number handy but do a search and you should find them. Those are for 3/4" threaded rod.  Bought the coupling nuts from HD and found pieces of 3/4" rod on a job site.  The pipefitters on the jobsite had several scrap pieces in a pile so I asked and they gave me a handful.  Space is a premium in our shop so just about everything has wheels on it.We found the PM sander on ebay (pick up only) and changed the bearings, painted and put a switch and cord on it.  Works like a champ. Thanks to all who make this site beneficial.BrianBrianLincoln Mig 215Miller 211Victor Torch SetMiller Maxstar 200SDMiller Syncrowave 250DX Tig runnerMiller Trailblazer 302 running on LPMiller Extreme 12 VS SuitcaseEllis 1600 BandsawMiller xmt350 CC/CVLincoln Vantage 300
Reply:Nice cart, beautiful jointerI struggled for years with a small tabletop jointer from Sears.  It did the job to a certain extent, but a good deal of clamping pressure, and a number of clamps were necessary for glue ups on large  panels."Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:At first I thought..."You could just buy a mobile base?"  Then I saw the hunk of cast iron you were mobilizing....Great Job!  I have my DJ-20, and my Jet Jtas-10 on mobile bases, and wouldn't have it any other way.MILLWRIGHT'S SONMiller XMT 304 CC/CVMiller S52 Stainless Steel FeederMiller Process Selector ControlBernard Q-GunBernard Short StubTrade: Furniture Maker, so I'm a fabricating fool.
