Hello to all. I'm not sure where to post this thread so i put it here. well anyways i would like to build a re spooler for small 4'' spools that my Millermatic 211 uses i have lots of spools handy already. And i was thinking  of buying a those big 44 pounds spools and use that to re spool my smaller ones .I was thinking something with a motor and gears to spin the smaller one from the bigger one and i can use my fingers to use make sure its nice and even. I have found this idea from www, weldingtipsandtricks, com. just type in the search box Mig spool re winder and it should show you the pics. Any help or info on this soon to be project would be grateful thanks again,Millermatic 211 with mvp plugs miller titanium series welding helmetstihl chain saws 8 ft welding table
Reply:something like the auxiliary shaft output on a Kitchen-aid might be ideal, then just have it pull the wire off the big spool.ps. you can use 8" spools in that machine too.Last edited by Groo; 03-27-2012 at 12:48 AM.
Reply:I have used a (spare parts) hub for the larger format spools mounted to an old piece of channel, on 'legs', and a smaller spool hub that I bought as a 'spare part' for the spool gun- for  almost 35 years.I used to use a corded drill in the smaller spool plastic hub now I use a cordless and just put your elbow on the large spool to brake and tension the wire as it rolls onto to the smaller spools, level wind with an acetone rag and put the 'new' rolls into a plastic bag with desiccant. The smaller spool 'hub driver' is an aluminum pipe sanded (no lathe) to fit inside the plastic spool's core/hub and notched to fit the webbing.I don't roll for a 1lb. MIG gun; but I do roll for my TIG gun and the plastic rolls are not standard- bless Osaka Transformer's little heart.  But it works fine and saves the cost of buying wire in very small wt.s at higher prices.Works fine- crude- but has been in service for a long time.cheers,Kevin Morin
Reply:i mounted a rack on my lincoln for 8 in. rolls. i bought a 15 ft. small teflon tube and taped it to my spool gun hose and wire and feed it into the gun and so far has worked flawlessly. a couple of pro welders laughed at me said it couldnt work but they aint laughing now.

Reply:Mini lathe works perfectly.  But who wants a 500 dollar spool winder unless they can find a real use for the lathe?  Just sayin...BobI'm spending my Kids inheritance, I dont like him that much anyway!!!!!!Enuff tools to do the job, enough sense to use em.Anybody got a spare set of kidneys?  Trade?
