Has any found a decent grinder these days? We are a mid-size mechanical contractor and go through 100's of these a year...We stuck with Metabo for years, but they are falling like flies anymore. Prefer the 6", as we stock all the consumables for those as it is.I might assume they are all cheap anymore. Im willing to pay for a good grinder, if such a thing exists...that can meet the heavy demand we put on them.Just a shot in the dark, would appreciate any input. Thanks.
Reply:I've had pretty good service from the 6" Makita's lately. I agree that the Metabo's were once the top of the line, but haven't had good luck recently either. I'm beginning to think that they might all need to be looked at as a consumable...buy whatever is on sale and throw it out when it dies.
Reply:I have a 6" Milwaukee. It has a built in breaker. so when you overload it you have to release the paddle switch, and start again. only takes a second and after a while you learn how hard to push not to trip the breaker.Scott
Reply:Yeah Metabo can suck it. I've had 12 on order for 2 weeks, and today my rep called and they were like "we may get them out today, or in a day or two.." As if they don't care. Well they are about to care just a little. I'm "fabbing" (lol) a corporate email, and have found some high ranking Metabo folks address, about the 300 grinders I've personally bought in the last 5 years....etc...And now, no more. Then again, might not phase them, but I will feel better : )Whew...ok...sorry...And the fact they are junk anymore. But thanks for the tips, I will keep looking. The one poster is probably right...just buy whatever as they arent going to last anyways.

Reply:If you have a local hilti store give them a call and tell them to send a rep out.   Then beat the rep up until he says he can beat any deal metabo was giving you then make him service them better.Vantage 500's LN-25's, VI-400's, cobramatics, Miller migs, synch 350 LX, Powcon inverters, XMT's, 250 Ton Acurrpress 12' brake, 1/4" 10' Atlantic shear,Koikie plasma table W/ esab plasmas. marvel & hyd-mech saws, pirrana & metal muncher punches.

Reply:I use Milwaukee and abuse the crap out of mine.  So far, they work like a charm.  I mean, I really treat my grinders like hobo turds!  I've broken off the side handle on two of them, but they still work.  The motors seem to hold up well and one of them is used exclusively out on the 4x4 trail in fine sandy conditions.  Still tick'n away............Lincoln Power Mig 216Lincoln AC/DC-225/125Miller  625 X-Treme PlasmaMiller 211 Forney 95FI-A 301HF 91110Victor Journeyman O/PMilwaukee DaytonMakita  Baileigh NRA Life Member
