alright, guys..i have a sort of strange question for you-has anyone here ever 'wiped' an Ipod or any mp3 player bby having it around their welder? i have an older ipod that still has the harddrive in it, a lot of time when i strike an arc it 'pauses' or skips for a second..not good, i would assume? would the flash memory type be better, or worse?
Reply:I commonly have this issue when welding aluminum. My older ipod will just stop playing and I'll have to take it out of my pocket, unlock it, pause the song, and then play the song for the music to come back on. As far as losing the information on the ipod - I've never had an issue. My only suggestion would be to keep the ipod as far away from the machine and torch wires as you can. I noticed the problem happening when the torch wires would be drapped across my lap and I'd have my ipod in the front pocket of my jeans. Hope this helps.
Reply:thanks.. i have mine sitting on the corner of my table setup(grounded), i have a dock/stereo thing that i use. i insulated it from the table thinking that might fix it-didnt work. what mine does is stop playing, but i have to manually reset the player and wait for it to start up again..i think it might just be dying..haha
Reply:Expensive iPod's and iPhone.... I keep them out of my pockets when welding or using a plasma cutter. I put my iPad into a "dock" device on the shelf in the garage and play the music that way.Lincoln Power Mig 216Lincoln AC/DC-225/125Miller 625 X-Treme PlasmaMiller 211 Forney 95FI-A 301HF 91110Victor Journeyman O/PMilwaukee DaytonMakita Baileigh NRA Life Member

Reply:My CD player stops at times when welding aluminum. Guessing all the HF has something to do with it.Synchrowave 300 Old but reliable
Reply:mine doesnt seem to care if i'm working with aluminum or steel, it just dead-stops and has to be reset...like 3 times in an hour last friday. one more time and it was going to go sailing across the shop. ChgoWelder; thats why i was thinking that the flash memory type might work better...as there is nothing that MOVES inside it(like your cd player). i think i'll buy an 8gb ipod touch this week sometime and try it out. i'll definitely let you all know if immediately starts smoking or has some other catastrophic failure! hahaha
Reply:killed a bunch of nokias over the years... now I have a motorola defy (shock&waterproof) and apparently em proof also cause I don't take it out of my poket when welding--------------------------------------------------------------www.becmotors.nlyup, I quit welding.. joined welder anonymous
Reply:Electronics + Welding Do Not Mix! Same reason you unhook vehicle battery b4 welding. Personal electronics need to be removed from your person and should be located in an area away from your welding. Well, that is if you want them to last for any amount of time. I guess if you wanted to wreck it so you cold get a new one, that would be another option.. LOL! |
