I got some type B for a 304 down pipe I'm building and dont wanna mix the whole 1# can at once. Is there a formula for measuring the powder by volume & not weight so I can mix up smaller batches? The directions say to mix 6-7 ounces of alchohol to a 1# can. So I guess that would  2.6 ounces of alchohol for every 1 ounce of powder (in weight). I could dump a table spoon on a postage scale but just thought someone here might know a better/easier way. Also will my denatured alchohol that I clean & prep parts with be ok for this?  HummerReally old (&faithful) Lincoln SA-250 Diesel, &Longevity 200P
Reply:Denatures alcohol works fine. I would put a small amount of flux in a small airtight container, such as a small wide-mouth glass jar or plastic container (eg an old Mentholatum plastic jar) and add enough alcohol to make a very thin paste or concentrated liquid. This is just to allow the flux to be applied thinly, it doesn't need to be in any special ratio  to react right, as the solvent just evaporates first.

Reply:I just put a little in a shot glass, and stir in alcohol until it's "looks right". You actually need to mix it pretty thin, not a thick paste, not even a thin paste. When you brush it on, it should brush on easily like thin paint, not grainy or chunky.. After 2 or 3 minutes it should dry to an even, thin coating.Miller EconotigCutmaster 38Yes ma'am, that IS a screwdriver in my pocket!

Reply:Nope, it will be fine as long as it doesn't get rubbed off the part.Miller EconotigCutmaster 38Yes ma'am, that IS a screwdriver in my pocket!
