HiI am preparing to build a bob skeleton racing chassis, I will be buying a sheet of S515, carbon steelwhich is the mating sheet material for BS4T45-BS4T100 carbon steel seamless tube. This sheet will be laser cut for parts then fabricated. What is the best method of welding this material, the welding joints must be robust and able to handle stress. This video link provides a idea of conditions the weld joints must cope with....wait for vid to buffer, hit play top left hand corner of linkhttp://fibt.pixabit.de/index.php?id=97&track_id=7&L=0Thanks for your helpMongoose
Reply:The material thickness is a major factor in your choice.  I am guessing wall thickness is light.  Gas Tungsten Arc Welding with the appropriate filler rod would be a good choice.  At those speeds I think it would be wise to have a qualified professional do the welding..... Unless you have over six months to practice and bend test your work.
Reply:Mongoose,This is a duplicate, verbatim question you've already posted in the 'General Welding Questions' section. See link below:http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=24861If the above link's suggestions, questions and comments returned to you aren't satisfactory,  thenmaybe you can help steer the thread in the direction needed.Blackbird
Reply:Dave,Actually this thread was posted first and I'm going to assume Mongoose didn't take into account that most typically cruise all the sections and he was just looking for as much input as possible.I say no harm, no foul.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!
Reply:Not enough advice already?http://www.ukwelder.com/forum/index....ded&show=&st=0You didn't give a standard AISI/SAE number, so I searched for the alloy you were referring to.If you're dealing with a specialty alloy (which you are) follow the manufacturer's advice - They say TIG is preferred, so your answer seems pretty simple to me.-Matt------------------------------------------
