These are my first serious attemps with a HF 90A Flux Mig and a HF 140A Stick welder, first pics are the Mig which gave me a lot of spatter not sure why.  The second pic are 3/32 6011 at 70A for the bottom two and the much better looking one on top is 3/32 6013 at 55A all on DC.Bert
Reply:wow not bad for your first attempt at welding...keep running those beads...when the plate Is full run more on top...Practice Practice...you will get better as time goes on
Reply:Right after posting this I put down some more beads with the 6013 and those are looking very nice like that top one but I can't get the 6011 to look like them.Bert
Reply:6011 is alot harder to run then 6013. Espicially for a begginer. What kind of rods and wire are you using? i but your using hf fluxcore wire? Try some lincoln and you will have less spatter and a nicer weld. I hate harborfreight wire/electrodes. They might work to learn with but after that don't use them. Not bad for the first try. Keep practing!!!Shane
Reply:Also try to slow your speed down alittle, then post some more pics!!
Reply:Are you using flux core wire on the mig machine?Switching the polarity on the mig machine may cure your spatter problem. Polarity may be set for shielding gas and and solid wire. If your using flux core wire with polarity set for solid wire, you can expect spatter like that.

Reply:You are right on the HF machine, there is no polarity to change.I like the Flux Core for it's penetration, but I've never had near as good bead compared to true mig process, like my Miller.I think it's the old eyes, hard to see the puddle with flux core compared to MIG.Miller 140 w A/SHF Flux Core WelderDewalt Chop SawSmith O/A TorchHarley Electra Glide Classic
Reply:learn to look for the puddle of melted metal when you weld..watch it and try to control and manipulate it..get it hot enough to melt the base metal  is critical toa strong weld..
