Not finished yet, but here is my start so far . . . . . Reply:Your car's tailights look high up enough that you shouldn't have a problem blocking them unless you really pile stuff on high.  Without tall side rails on the rack, I don't see that happening.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
Reply:I'd second the vote for lights. I added lights to mine in the parking lot on the way home. I took the picture before adding the lights. Since then I've used the hauler a few times and always been happy I had the lights on it. Even though your lights may not be covered, the carrier sticks out a couple feet and this ensures nobody rear ends you
Reply:Well, I decided last night to work on this and add some supports.  Before I realized in, and about 6 welds too late, I put the supports on backwards.  I ran out of 4.5" cutting discs, so I whipped out the plasma cutter to try and undo the damage, and in the process pretty much destroyed the thing. At least the welds held on really, really, really well.  I have to feel proud about that.  I just have a big pile of metal now pretty much.Anyway, I know I can "fix it", but it would take too much work.  I think I will just start it over again.  I had a couple of things I learned the first time around anyway that I would like to correct this next time around.  I don't have as much time lately, but I will see what I can do to post new pics of the "redo" as I get them.As I will be redoing this, any suggestions or recommendations (any changes you would make to my original design)? The Lord has declared, "This is my work and my glory--to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man"  Moses 1:39Link: My name is John, and I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.-- ColdCreekWorks.com --
Reply:I built one from aluminum that had 10 inch rails around it for my inlaws. They also added lights because the cargo almost always covered them.UA Local 598
Reply:Sorry to hear about the mis-hap!   Sure you can't fix it?  That's one beauty about metal, if you cut it wrong, you can weld it back together and if you weld it wrong, you can cut it back apart.  No such luck working with wood.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
