Nothing special just a quick steering ram mount for my jeep Attached Images
Reply:Holy hell! Beefy! I don't know what a quick steering mount is (steering box w/fast ratio?) but damn, looks like it can take the jeep scene quite nicely.Just another clown trying to be cool
Reply:Thick plate is always a guessing game to me.Do I develop full strength with a simple fillet, or should I bevel it for something approaching a full penetration weld. But looking at the tubing the plate's welded to, why bother with a full penetration weld. The tubing will give out first.I'm assuming the thick plate is for rigidity, and resistance to wear at the eyes"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:But I'd still get queasy and at least do a built up weld. It's just me, ignore it, I'm weeeeeeeeeeeeerd"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:Oh Hell, I'd bevel it least a leetl bit. ROFLMAO"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:square is 1/2'' the plate is 3/4'' i was going to build up the weld but it was one of my best and didnt want to screw it lolololol
Reply:At any rate it's BEEFY! and nice work ta boot! Noe put it in your machine and take a picture so I know what the hell I'm commenting on!Just another clown trying to be cool
Reply:Nice work on the cutting and fitting. If your tube has a 1/2" wall thickness and the the plate is 3/4" thick, your fillet welds should have minimum 1/2" leg length. That means multiple passes. Reply:1/2" walled square tubing? can you drive your jeep on just the front two wheels? with that ultra-beefy mount, it will tip the center of gravity all the way to the front bumper
Reply:lmao ya my jeep is sitting on 1ton axles. Attached Images
Reply:Me thinks you'll tear apart your entire front end before that part fails. Good lord that is only like 10x overbuilt. Seeing as it's at an angle though I'm a little surprised you didn't leave more relief around the mounting point, or angle the upright. But if it works it works.
