Got some early christmas money and want an opinion please.I have a MM140 which is great but want to be able to do aluminum. I was thinking of upgrading to something like a DVI2, or 212, or maybe a used 252.At the same time thought that it would be fun to learn to tig!!Any ideas?

Reply:Wow, I don't know what I would do. I have the Miller DVI2 which replaced my old MM130. I love it and use it a fair bit, but I just purchased a Lincoln PT225 tig a couple month ago. Tig welding is amazing and so fun. I guess you are going to need to figure out what your future projects and goals are going to be. One thing about a good Tig welder is that you can use it to stick weld for thicker stuff that the 110 mig can't do so after saying this I might tend to lean toward the tig if you are a good stick welder. The only hold up I see with this idea is the a decent tig is going to cost a lot more then a good mig. Make sure if you do decide to get a tig, it is a good one, it really does pay. I had a cheap one to start with and after getting the PT225, well I couldn't believe the difference. Reply:TIG is slow. But the complete control is addicting. If you're going to be welding brackets, widgets and gizmos, TIG wins.
