This not a welding project there will be welding on it later repairing fuels tanks fitting new 5th wheel bullbar and other odd jobs but it a project we have going at work at the present time This truck had the bad luck of a speeding car hitting it then from the impact it ran off the road and hit a tree as a result of the crash the truck has to have a new cab fitted engine rebuild and new chassis rails as they were bent beyond repair to get the chassis rails right we supply Kenworth with the VIN of the truck and from there records they can supply them to fit the truck to the specs when it was built my section does all the chassis work thought some of you might be interest in what work goes into a big rig after a wreck Creative metal Creative metal Facebook
Reply:I never really thought about it before, but I guess I just figured you guys had your own truck manufacturers.  Are those trucks shipped over to you instead?  I can't imagine one wrecked that bad being fixed in the US, but I guess it would be a different story if we had to import them half way around the world.
Reply:the trucks built here in oz but they cost alot more than in the states this one would be worth around $300000 and its only 12 months old Creative metal Creative metal Facebook
Reply:Makes sense to repair it then versus purchasing new. Looks like alot of fun and alot of work.John -  fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!-  bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com

Reply:Usually we just get blank rails bent up from a fab house here in the states and drill them to match.  saves a lot of coin over getting factory rails punched from PACCAR.    Plus that gives us the ability to go to a longer wheelbase without any hassle.Vantage 500's LN-25's, VI-400's, cobramatics, Miller migs, synch 350 LX, Powcon inverters, XMT's, 250 Ton Acurrpress 12' brake, 1/4" 10' Atlantic shear,Koikie plasma table W/ esab plasmas. marvel & hyd-mech saws, pirrana & metal muncher punches.
Reply:Originally Posted by flatbustedbrokeNot only would it be back on the road but so are a lot of others that were worse off. They rarely total a newer truck unless the engine is damaged or a fire. The rails are replaced so the frame is straight and if that is the worry you have about some of the trucks on the road you need to take a good look at some of them one day. The only surprise with the above truck is that it wasn't totaled out or maybe it was and the company bought it back.  My question is How is the driver it takes a bit of force to bend frame rails.

Reply:P.G. Adams http://www.pgadams.com/  bends them up back east to order.   As i recall they have a 1000 ton 36' brake.   Pretty much everyone i know gets their rails from them.   I always opt for the Grade-100  100,000 PSI minimum yield steel when spec'ing replacement rails.Last edited by Dualie; 06-03-2010 at 12:22 AM.Vantage 500's LN-25's, VI-400's, cobramatics, Miller migs, synch 350 LX, Powcon inverters, XMT's, 250 Ton Acurrpress 12' brake, 1/4" 10' Atlantic shear,Koikie plasma table W/ esab plasmas. marvel & hyd-mech saws, pirrana & metal muncher punches.
