I'm welding with flux core for 2 years and I would like to buy a cylinder but I'm having trouble to find out where I should fill the cylinder since I read somewhere that some suppliers will not refill small bottles (looking for a 40 or 55 cu argon/co). So my question is.... anybody from south jersey/Philadelphia who gets the cylinders filled --smaller cylinders not the 125's, where? And also where I can buy the cylinder. Thanks in advance,I need to weld some parts on my truck and some areas the metal's too thin for flux. My welder is a Lincoln 140.
Reply:I deal with GTS Welco in Philly. There are several other decent sized suppliers around as well. Like most places here they don't "fill" small cylinders, simply exchange them. You bring in your empty, and they swap it for a full one. You still own the new cylinder, but you don't have to bother with hydro testing and so on, and you can swap gasses simply by exchanging cylinders. GTS sells cylinders, My last sale catalog lists them selling full 60 cf cylinders for $120 and 80's for $165 roughly. All the small guys who filled owner cylinders ( with the exception of propane) are long out of business. With many gasses, you needed to drop off the cylinder and come back later to pick it up when they were done filling. If your cylinder was out of hydro, you'd have to wait until it got back from hydro before they'd send it out to be filled, adding to the down time. Most guys don't want to be bothered with that hassle today..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear.
