I have to piece in some plate on my Al skiff hull tomorrow. 3/16 material. I have the choice of using my Lincoln powermig 255 with prince spool gun, or tigging it. There's no pulse feature on the 255 and I haven't had any luck overhead with the spool gun. Should I be able to weld verticle and overhead with this setup?  I'm thinking of going tig. Any tips or ideas would be great. Thanks in advance.

Reply:Went well except for two spots where the gap is larger and deeper. I'm having a tough time filling these spots. I think 90% of the problem is that the boat is old and despite my cleaning, the aluminum isn't perfect. I can' t seem to get the puddle going and my filler falls before it flows. Any ideas? Wish I could flip it over and use gravity. Thanks again.
