Here is a little prject that I made... It's nothing that compares to the high quality fabrication work I have seen on this forum, but it was a fun project for a non welder who just happens to own a Hobart MIG 180. This target is designed to hang from a 2x4 target rack (rack already in use). When you shoot one of the green or yellow squares, the target should spin. This is at least the idea as I have not put it to the test yet. Most of the metal used to build this project is cut up lawn mower blades. All the metal used was scrap metal.Last edited by little Jeep; 06-08-2010 at 02:35 PM.Reason: added photoQualified & experienced at welding scrap metal
Reply:Sweet. I will grab my Ruger 22/45 and be right over to try it out...BobBob WrightSalem, Ohio  Birthplace of the Silver & Deming Drillhttp://groups.yahoo.com/group/southbend10k/http://groups.yahoo.com/group/sawking/1999 Miller MM185 w/ Miller 185 Spoolmate spoolgun
Reply:Interesting idea and all, but be wary of ricochets as you have all sorts of varying curves and angles on your 'targets'.  Those up and down and fore and aft curves and angles on those pieces of cut-up lawn mower blades mean that bullet splatter and ricochets can and WILL go in all sorts of directions. Also, be wary of high velocity rounds onto those pieces of steel.  HV rounds will most likely just punch right through the 'face'.  Lawn mower blade steel is not super hard or strong stuff as far as steel goes.Be safe.  Have fun and have fun shooting and creating and welding, but be safe.  Usual best practice with steel targets is to slightly angle the metal face so that the bullet and bullet remains are deflected down and into the ground.  bullet path  - - - - - - - - - - - \ slightly angled target so bullet spatters into groundbullet path  - - - - - - - - - - - / BAD !!!!!  angle is upward so bullet spatters or ricochets up into who-knows-whereAlso some fairly hard steel is usually called for to keep the target surface from cratering and forming deflections that can bounce bullets or bullet pieces back at the shooter.bullet path  - - - - - - - - - - - )  BAD as bullet/pieces can bounce off the crater and back at shooter  The best laid schemes ... Reply:Dude, even a 'lowly' standard velocity 22LR round will spatter itself or ricochet before the spinning arms ever start to move.  Due to inertia, in this case rotational inertia of your spinner.Read here for some more info on steel targets :http://www.actiontarget.com/pdf/pt_S...urce_Guide.pdf  The best laid schemes ...
