For towing it across the grass. I recently acquired this 2 1/2 ton engine hoist in a little horse trade deal. Since where I want to store it when not in use across a bit of grass and it'll be parked on dirt, I thought it needed some extras for soft surfaces. I mounted the 8" wheels so the steel casters are about 1/2" off the concrete. If a heavy load is picked, the 8 inchers will compress enough to allow the steel ones to take the load. Also built a tongue so I can tow it behind the riding mower. It's all there weightwise!!!  I didn't take a pic of it, but the PO had an 8' piece of 2 x3x 3/16" tube to fit inside the original boom extension. Reply:Thanks. I forgot to mention the two straight casters can be removed by pulling a pin on each if needed to get under a low slung vehicle.
