Reply:Cylinders hold compressed gas.Tanks hold gasoline / liquids.Bottles hold (preferably) rye whiskey.At least that's the way it is around my house.

Reply:Most often it seems like cylinders are not actually called anything specific at all and "cylinder" is just presumed when the contents (and sometimes size)  are referenced.  For example, if someone says: "I need a 250 oxygen" everyone understands that to mean a high pressure cylinder of 250 *ft (* I don't know how to type the cube symbol ) and so further details go without saying.
